Last few days in NC: The birthday celebrations continued, from H’s children’s party to @jacesonic ‘s burger blast to my final day on beautiful Carolina Beach. I will miss my NC family so much. 🥰

Memories at the Pen and a culinary tour of the iconic hotel. 🌟
As @thepeninsulamanila celebrates its 50th anniversary, the hotel treated the @philippinestarlifestylesection to a culinary journey, starting with appetizers at Spices, followed by the main course at Old Manila, and ending with desserts at the grand lobby.
Along the way, we took a trip down memory lane, sharing our own stories and special moments at the Pen.

An early Christmas celebration at the @thepeninsulamanila with @mrgarchitorena_ph @sugaplumpfairy and our @philippinestarlifestylesection family @milletmartinezmananquil @scottgarceau @aapatawaran @frannie.jacinto @lisagnakpil @mel_cuevas @toda_monique @vickyvelosobarrera We relived our Manila Pen memories as Garch and Grace walked us through the 50 year history of the hotel and prepared a special Culinary Journey from the lobby to Spices, Old Manila and back to the lobby, with chefs at each stop preparing the most delectable culinary creations.

Week 4 in NC: Birthday celebrations for me and my brother-in-law @jacesonic meant a LOT of feasting at so many great restaurants – True Blue for steak, Perla Raw Bar for oysters and lobster rolls, Los Portales for tacos, and a seafood boil I cooked for the fam. Best gift was this time I spent with them and Baby K! We even went to the Trask Family Farm for their pumpkin patch and corn maze! 🎃 🥳🎂🎉

Week 3 in NC: It’s been an eventful week in Dawson’s Creek country, from watching “Forgotten Island,” which made me so happy and proud to see our Pinoy culture and mythology depicted onscreen, to @jasmin_jamora arriving to make us a trio of Jam sisters, to living the #soccermomlife vicariously through @marie_jamora , whose daughter H did great as goalie at their last 0-0 game! Great offense and defense on both teams. 🥰⚽️🥅❤️‍🔥

It’s a fantastic time to be Filipino. I was in the cinema watching @forgottenislandmovie, a film that made me laugh, cry, as well as burst with utmost pride… I also brought HARANA and my newborn son, KIDLAT to his first ever movie. Yes, you read that right. I have a son now!! I gave birth three weeks ago to this little bolt of lightning. ⚡

My two kids got to see their beautiful mythology and culture represented onscreen — I loved the creative swings the filmmakers @joel.crawford.art and @janimatedultd took with our mythological creatures. I appreciated the Pinoy Easter eggs like the lip pointing, mano po, lechon jokes, and Jo’s family’s OFW struggle. I give mad props to the soundtrack as well. It was awesome hearing @nathanmdavid use our native instruments for the score in Dolby surround. I also got goosebumps hearing the @officialsb19 cover of Francis M’s anthem “Mga Kababayan.” Shout out to the kickass Pinoy ensemble @lizasoberano , @hermusicofficial , @mannyjacinto , @nicosantos , @amielynn.abellera , @eugcordero , @dollyedeleon , and @msleasalonga for their absolutely phenomenal performances.

Please watch this film in the theater! Bring your kids, friends, and loved ones. It’s one of the highest rated animated films on Rotten Tomatoes and the animation is STUNNING in the cinema. This movie is a landmark moment for our community and my country. Showing that audiences support our movies will help our future, so that our kids, including Harana and Kidlat, can see themselves onscreen and know that their culture and stories matter, not just within the Asian community, but as human beings.

Week 2 with my American fam, from celebrating my niece’s birthday at an awesome hibachi place to Scott visiting his family, to precious moments with my newborn nephew. 🥰

Happy 89th birthday to Dad — who helped me with my homework, introduced me to jazz, and instilled in me a love for excellence over mediocrity. He was the doctor you went to for a cough, controlled your asthma, and yes, could be found on the golf course on Sundays with Gary and his buddies, hoisting a frosty San Miguel and eating lechon. We love you so much, Dad, may God bless you abundantly always! 🙏🎁🥳🎂🎉🍻❤️

Happy birthday to my guy, the Bostonian who’s lived so long in the Philippines that he asks, “What is snow?”and gets cold in movie theaters. Who can order a mean cup of coffee in Tagalog. Who eats adobo and sinigang on a regular basis, though he’ll never say no to a burger. Who is as Filipino, in other words, as he is American. May you have many more blessed and happy years in this country, your adopted home, with your Filipino family! 🥳☕️🎉🎂💝🇵🇭
