We were pleased one of our 1st year apprentice’s, Sam, was willing and happy to have an interview with Neil Braidwood, Creative and Publishing Manager of Decorating Matters, the Scottish Decorators’ Federation magazine.

Sam joined the company on a 4 week apprenticeship trial in July 2025. After a very successful trial period, Sam was offered and accepted a 4 year apprenticeship with us. Sam, who will shortly be going into his 2nd year, continues to receive good feedback from both college and from site.

With regular college attendance, together with the mentoring and guidance from our skilled tradespeople, Sam will continue to receive training and support to ensure there is ongoing progression throughout his journey towards becoming a qualified tradesperson.

Reflecting on an incredible day at the SAPCT NPA Competition 2026 🏆

What a privilege it was to host the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers National Progression Award Competition 2026 here at City of Glasgow College on 7th May. Watching young painters and decorators from across Scotland bring skill, focus, and genuine craft to their boards was everything this competition is about — celebrating the next generation of our trade.

The standard on the day was outstanding. From the precision of the brushwork to the ambition of the designs, every competitor gave it everything. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible:

🏅 Tikkurila — our main sponsor, whose generous product support and commitment to inspiring the next generation made the day possible
🏅 Smith & Roger Shellacs — for your continued support of the craft and our students
🏅 Q1 Masking Tapes — a product our competitors trust on the day when it matters most
🏅 Ask My Decorator App — for backing vocational education and the professionals of tomorrow

A very special thank you to Stuart McDonald for taking the time to deliver a fantastic display and CPD session to fellow lecturers on the day. Your expertise and generosity in sharing knowledge is exactly the spirit SAPCT was built on — thank you, Stuart.

To every student who competed — you represented your college, your employer, and your trade with distinction. Be proud.

To every lecturer and assessor who supported the day — your dedication to this craft and to your learners does not go unnoticed.

The SAPCT exists to support the professional development of Painting Craft Teachers and Vocational Educators across Scotland, and events like this are the heartbeat of what we do. We're already looking forward to 2027. 🎨

🏆 City of Glasgow College SWEPT the awards at the Scottish Decorators Federation Show yesterday and we couldn’t be more proud! 🎨✨
Our apprentices took home the TOP prizes in Scotland 👇
🥇 1st Year Prize — Ruben Daley @Mitie
🥇 2nd Year Prize — Michelle Kelly @Doran Decorators
🥇 Advanced Craft — Moises Vasquez @Dumbrek Decorators
What an achievement. These three have worked so hard and yesterday they proved they are the best young decorators in Scotland! 🙌
So proud to have been there to see them collect their awards in person — they have done their college, their employers and themselves incredibly proud 💪
A huge thank you to Shaunie Diamond at CITB for everything she does behind the scenes recruiting and supporting our apprentices at City of Glasgow College — days like yesterday don’t happen without people like you! 🙏
And big thanks to the Scottish Decorators Federation for putting on a brilliant show! 👏

Last night at the Scottish Decorators Federation Awards 2025, I was awarded Winner of Private Domestic Project of the Year and Highly Commended for Historic Project of the Year.

To get this level of recognition in 2 years of trading is a reflection of the work that’s gone into building the business so far. I take a lot of pride in every job I do and it’s an honour to be recognised.

Thanks to all my clients for trusting me with your homes.
