What a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday - in beautiful Puglia, Italy, spending the week with great friends at their gorgeous villa! 🇮🇹❤️🎂

Scott and I spent the day exploring the charming seaside towns of Monopoli and Polignano a Mare, soaking up the spectacular coastal scenery and all the beauty this region has to offer!

And then came the unexpected birthday adventure! Just as our chef was getting ready to prepare my birthday dinner, a storm rolled through and knocked out all the electricity! No problem! We lit the candles, kept the wine flowing, and continued the celebration by candlelight.

As it turned out, it was one of the most memorable and delicious birthday dinners ever!

Great friends, fabulous food, lots of laughter, and a little Italian drama!

Grateful! 🙏🙏🙏

Few trips can compare to Italy, but when you have the opportunity to reconnect with family in the village where your grandfather was born and raised, it makes the journey even more special. 🇮🇹❤️

Thirteen years ago, Scott and I were fortunate enough to discover Oriolo, the beautiful village in Calabria where my grandfather grew up. We visited then with my second and third cousins, and I knew that on this trip to Puglia, we had to return.

So we made the three-hour drive to Oriolo to reconnect with family and once again experience this very special village, with its spectacular castle, beautiful church and incredible views.

It was wonderful spending time with my third cousin Claire; her parents, my second cousin Pina and her husband Angelo; and Pina's sister, my second cousin Maria Antoinette Liguori. Pina and Maria Antoinette’s grandfather and my grandfather were brothers, part of a family of seven siblings who grew up in Oriolo. My grandfather was the only one of the seven to leave Italy and make a new life in the United States.

There’s something incredibly moving about returning to the place where your family’s story began - walking the same streets, seeing the same landscape and, most importantly, reconnecting with family.

What a special day and an unforgettable part of our Italian journey. A trip back to my grandfather’s roots…and a reminder that no matter how many years or miles separate us, family connections endure. ❤️🇮🇹

Monday we drove to Matera. What a fascinating city!!!

Matera is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a history stretching back thousands of years. It’s best known for the incredible Sassi di Matera, ancient neighborhoods of homes, churches and passageways carved into the limestone cliffs. Once considered an impoverished area of Italy, the Sassi underwent an extraordinary transformation and today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Walking through Matera is an experience in itself with the winding stone streets, steep stairways, caves, arches and spectacular views at every turn. It almost feels like a movie set, which is fitting since Matera has been the backdrop for numerous films, including 'The Passion of the Christ' and the James Bond film 'No Time to Die.'

At the top of the Civita, we toured the magnificent Matera Cathedral, built in the 13th century and dedicated to the Madonna della Bruna and Saint Eustace, along with its museum. The Cathedral is beautiful inside, and its hilltop location offers incredible views across the Sassi and the surrounding landscape.

Matera has gone from an ancient cave settlement to one of the most fascinating destinations in southern Italy and was named European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Matera is definitely worth the drive! 🇮🇹❤️

Sunday in Puglia 🇮🇹 included a visit to the incredible town of Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its enchanting trulli, centuries-old whitewashed stone houses with distinctive cone-shaped roofs. Walking through the winding streets feels like stepping into another world! And we ran into the same friends we surprisingly ran into at our hotel in Lecce! Kevin and Donna DePicciotto!

From there, we headed to the smaller, charming hilltop town of Locorotondo, with its narrow lanes, whitewashed homes, flower-filled balconies and beautiful views over the Valle d’Itria.

We ended another wonderful day back in Ceglie Messapica, enjoying a lovely dinner and, of course, more delicious Puglian cuisine!

Giuseppe somehow turned breakfast into lunch AND dinner with an incredible spread of Puglian delicacies including an assortment of local cheeses, pastries and the grand finale - a tiramisu with chocolate that was absolutely out of this world! 🇮🇹❤️

Day 2 in beautiful Lecce! 🇮🇹✨

One of the highlights was visiting the magnificent Basilica di Santa Croce, one of Lecce’s great Baroque treasures. The incredibly ornate façade, intricate stone carvings and stunning interior are breathtaking. Everywhere you look, there’s another remarkable detail.
I adore walking the quaint streets and soaking up the history and charm here.

Thanks to @thereallerxst @rush and the RUSH team for sending these first two photos from Thursday night’s incredible concert at the @thegarden 🎸

One of the many things I love about RUSH is how their music continues to span generations. Looking around the Garden, I saw so many dads with their sons, sharing the music they’ve loved for years; and sons who have become huge RUSH fans themselves!

In the second photo, here's our good friend @jimdonaghystobuildinggroup with his son Jimmy, who grew up playing guitar to RUSH music. A few years ago, when we honored Alex at my charity golf event at Maidstone, Jim successfully bid on one of Alex’s guitars that Alex so kindly donated.

Thursday was another great memory and a reminder of how great music connects generations.
