Dears, This is the last week of Big Lazy’s fundraiser / pre order for a new album on Kickstarter (Link in Bio) Thrilled to announce Scotty Hard will be producing. Scotty, who mixed our album Don’t Cross Myrtle has produced many artists we admire incl. Martin, Medeski & Wood and Sex Mob. His gritty tone and sublime skill as an engineer will take us to a whole new place. Here’s the thing with Kickstarter: if we don’t hit our goal by Wed Sept 30 11:59pm we don’t collect the funds. Please join us. Desperately yours, Stephen Ulrich. >>>Big Lazy. A new album on Kickstarter. band shots @irishjazz

“I have no fucking idea how Scott does what he does. All I know is that he always makes things that sound very cool.”- Steven Bernstein “Many musicians are very literal about things… But Steven hears the whole thing.”- Scotty Hard Link in bio to the second part of our conversation with Steven Bernstein and Scotty Hard, where we dig deeper into their collaborative process, Laurie Anderson, hip hop, and more. ‘Ultra Resonance’ is out now on Royal Potato Family. #stevenbernstein #scottyhard #ultraresonance #royalpotatofamily #laurieanderson

“I made this record and it’s still very mysterious to me how it all worked so well together. To have a mystery like that after making music for so many years is pretty cool.”- Steven Bernstein “I feel, in some ways, I take Teo Macero’s aura and use it with newer technology.”- Scotty Hard Link in bio to our conversation with Steven Bernstein and Scotty Hard on ‘Ultra Resonance.’ Their wild album, and ‘ResoNation Trio’ that lies in the heart of it, are out now on Royal Potato Family. REPOST from @Flotation_Device_KBCS: Flotation Device examines the premiere recordings of Kaija Saariaho's late orchestral work Vista (inspired by California's Interstate 5 but still beautiful), Heiner Goebbels' setting of Thoreau's Walden (in its original version with the unique instruments and speaking voice of Bob Rutman), Kaikhosru Sorabji's 7-hour piano sonata Opus Archimagicum (with soloist Tellef Johnson) and Heinz Winbeck's Blick in den Strom (which suggests how Bartók might have sounded if he'd been a minimalist). We also hear Min Xiao-Fen and Julian Kytasty explore the unorthodox combination of pipa and bandura, while Michael Hersch does likewise with soprano, violin and bassoon. Our 50-years-ago feature revisits a Michael Gregory Jackson classic from New York's loft jazz era, plus an unusually tidy 7-minute Morton Feldman gem for 7 instruments. Pianist Irène Schweizer gets an archival release, while new fusion dimensions from Melvin Gibbs and the Untethered trio round things out. Sunday, August 16, 10pm–Midnight PDT (GMT -7), on 91.3 @KBCS Bellevue/Seattle/Tacoma (streaming at KBCS.FM). Available in podcast format (with HQ audio) at Mixcloud.com. Creative and improvised music from the Northwest and around the world with host Mike Schell. ________________ Photo credits: @MichaelGregoryJackson by D. Many thanks to @willlayman and @popmatters for this fantastic review of our new double album, ResoNation Trio + Ultra Resonance. “What a joy to hear this amazing artist play his a** off and then team up with producer Scotty Hard to take his own live trio recording and refract it in the style of Miles Davis and Teo Macero to create a pulsing electronic work of new art.” “[Bernstein] is about as far from a ‘jazz purist’ as a trumpet player can be, while still making jazz records that deserve to be on jazz ‘top ten’ lists. His music simply works across genres and blends into the great American tradition that does not respect boundaries.” Read the full piece over at their website, and if you haven’t checked out the records yet, head to the link in bio to get your copy.
