Stratego (1946). Is it worth playing? If a child asks to play because they enjoy it, that alone is reason enough. There is another reason, too: we adults who are into the board gaming hobby have to honestly admit that we don’t like playing the same games over and over again—especially not the simple ones that seem trivial. Or rather, I should speak for myself, since tastes vary. The most important thing, however, is to let your child have their own favourite board games and to make time for them. That last part is key. Honestly, you can go fishing, go for a run, or take a trip for a change of scenery—while bringing along a small game, of course. (We usually take San Juan, Fliptoons, or the incredibly compact games from the ‘Pack O Game’ series.)

At home, however, we play Stratego quite often. We both enjoy it. 👍

Stratego Original (1946):

🎯 My rating: 7.55/10 For Simplicity😗

Just wanted to spread a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has reviewed our demo versions of Wickens so far! Your words have truly helped a lot with the games development and getting Wickens out to a new audience. From all the feedback received, the final version is being improved dramatically, so I can't wait to get the game out there after the Kickstarter campaign is over!

Also a big shout out to @ukbg_review_circle for helping so much when we were just starting out! Thank you so much!!

As well as those featured on the post itself, please check out all of these other lovely reviewers who have helped spread the word and supported Wickens early in development -

There was a lot of buzz around pins/badges again this year at @ukgamesexpo , both the official Pin Collective and the unofficial content creators group 🙂

We had our own badges to give away as always and although we weren't actively collecting them, these few serve as great reminders of friendly conversations, firm handshakes and lots of laughter 😃

To all the people who made our first UKGE so special, thank you!

It would be impossible to tag everyone but we have tried to tag a few of you! Everyone we met was absolutely delightful. Board games are wonderful but the community around them is arguably better and we feel so grateful to be apart of that

We can't wait for the next UKGE to get see people we consider as true friends again!

Also shout out to @lucy_playsgames for teaching us about the scrl app to make this post!

The countdown is nearly over. Only 1 day left! UKGE 2026 is tomorrow!

Tomorrow at 9am the hall doors for UK Games Expo 2026 will finally be opening. This is honestly the highlight of my year, every year...since I started attending over 10 years ago.

So, as you may have noticed, over the last ten days I have been counting down by looking back at the last 10 years of UKGE.

And with only one day to go, we are now at last year - 2025. What a year it was! Every day so far I have talked about the growth each year, but in 2025 it was something else! 72,000 total attendance across the weekend and an incredible 780 exhibitors.

I attended as press again this year and had a ram packed schedule all weekend - meeting publishers and PR reps, networking with other content creators and attending so many demos. It was a really busy weekend and even though I enjoyed it, I don't think I will book in so many appointments again because honestly I found it a little overwhelming to keep up with them all (especially because I kept getting lost due to the changed layout!) I haven't actually made any formal appointments at all this year. I intend to just float around and see how it goes! Is that a bad idea?

I played so many amazing games at UKGE25, but I think my absolute favourite was Pergola, which is now a firm favourite in our collection. Other notable games included Gloomies, Gwent, Battle of Hoth and Toy Battle.

The highlight this year was getting to attend a private demo session of some upcoming Asmodee games which included a sneak peak of the not yet released Take Time. And of course again I got to meet up with so many wonderful people, too many to tag! I can't wait to see everyone again tomorrow.

What are you most looking forward to at UKGE26?
