Stockroom View | August Light

While the Northern Hemisphere embraces summer, August in the Southern Hemisphere marks a turning point in light.

Bringing together works by Daniel O’Toole, Justin Scivetti, Max Doyle, Elizabeth Lewis and Freja Innes-Ker, this selection explores the luminous interplay of colour, texture and form. Together, the works evoke the clarity and quiet anticipation that accompany this shift between seasons.

Last Saturday we hosted ID: Image, Identity within Max Doyle’s ‘Scrap Forever’ exhibition, moderated by gallery director, curator Kitty Clark, a trip down memory lane through image-making from the pre-digital 90s to today.

Together, Max Doyle, Kate Bell and Tali Udovich unpacked decades of lived experience across photography, fashion, publishing, and cultural image-making, reflecting on a time when photography felt so instinctive, tactile, and deeply human. A time shaped by long days spent settling into a location, the glow of the darkroom, and the anticipation of watching an image gradually appear by hand. The conversation also touched on trusting the unparalleled eye of a true image-maker, shaped through experience, intuition, and human connection.

Max Doyle aka @scrap_doyle also brought in one of his original scrapbooks, alongside a selection of legendary magazines from the era presented by Tali Udovich, publications that helped shape a generation of image-making and on whose covers and pages Max’s photographs have appeared throughout his career.

So much more to unpack… shall we do this again? @maxdoyle_photographer @i_am_katebell @taliudovich @blendergallery

✨PANEL GUEST - Yesterday Kitty Clark @saint_cloche gallery Paddington, hosted a panel discussion with @taliudovich of @blendergallery x cult classic photographer + artist @maxdoyle_photographer of @scrap_doyle & me! Our conversation centred around image-making from the pre digital 90s through to today. We talked about how images are captured and constructed, and continue to evolve over time, and how identity plays out through that process.

Scrap Forever is Max’s new solo exhibition. Max is a defining voice of the 1990s, emerging from London’s grunge era, where a raw, instinctive visual language took shape at the intersection of fashion, art and counterculture.

Thankyou for including me in this lively, fun and interesting afternoon 🙏🏼✌🏼Carousel cover image of my scrap! #ivebeenscraped
