From classroom to international co-production — Western Australia’s first back and-floor LED volume configured to industry standards is now live at Curtin University. On 10 September, together with Curtin University, we launched its new Virtual Production Studio — the result of a collaboration that began with an MOU signed at Asia TV Forum 2024 in Singapore. As consultant on the studio’s 8m x 8m LED volume build, OMG Studios was also a key contributor to the curriculum for Curtin’s new Bachelor of Digital Creative Industries and provided training for its teaching staff — giving students access to the same VP tools and workflows used on international productions. And the pathway is already real: 1) Curtin students are credited on our feature Whispers of Fatimah — the first Singapore–Malaysia–Indonesia co-production to use Virtual Production (VP), which premiered in Indonesian cinemas last September and incoming in Malaysian Cinemas in November. 2) At the launch, we announced a co-production initiative with Paul Barron of Sandpiper Entertainment, starting with Amber Fang (Australia–Singapore–Malaysia) — with Curtin taking part directly. 3) Through the OMG Studios–Curtin Industry Bridging Programme, selected polytechnic graduates can earn credit toward the degree, reducing the time required to complete it. Guests also watched a live on-stage demo and a short film made fully in-house by students and staff, supported by us. For us, the goal is simple: give students not just a qualification, but real experience, screen credits and industry connections. This is just the beginning — from classroom to screen, across Australia, Southeast Asia and beyond. Once again, thank you to Curtin University, the WA Government’s Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, Screenwest, IMDA, Iskandar Malaysia Studios, and our technology partners RED Digital Camera, XGRIDS, Absen, BytePlus, Disguise, Epic Games and stYpe. #OMGStudios #CurtinUniversity #VirtualProduction #CreativeTechnology #FutureOfMedia

WA’s screen industry is going from strength to strength - and the next big project is no different! 🎬 Produced by and starring @phoebejtonkin (of Aussie classic H2O: Just Add Water), a screen adaptation of @sarah_bailey_author award-winning novel is being filmed in Perth next year. The Dark Lake will feature Tonkin as a rural detective who investigates the murder of a former high school classmate, and is anticipated to inject more than $8.5 million into WA’s economy. Our government has delivered major investment into our screen industry, and this latest project definitely looks like one to keep an eye on. 👀
