POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Welcome @fencing49827 to Ottawa!

We’re making our first ever trip to @henryarlingtons with longtime pals @pith.band & @scrip.issue to grace the evening with pure noise, chaos and beauty 🥹

Forming in 2019 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Fencing had met as teenagers playing in the indie scene but soon diverged sonically from their roots. By the time they recorded Fencing Wikipedia, the band had developed a complex, idiosyncratic sound characterized by extreme dynamic range, harmonic dissonance and irregular song structures fencing 🤺

PITH is OTT/MTL bardcore cosmic country freak folk with a rotating band of scallywags and public servants 👥👥

Scrip Issue is Ottawa’s premier noise rock trio, dipping in and out of beat while shaking 🫨 the floor at all times

Tonight was very shoegazey. Before tonight, I didn’t actually know what shoegaze meant, but a friend told me I’d only be looking in one direction, and he was bang on (thanks, Hippy). It’s an experience best done with your eyes closed: you lean into the backwash coming off the stage and let it cover you like a blanket, which was perfect for this cold night.

A quick Google search says the name comes from artists looking down for most of the set, fiddling with their pedals and effects, constantly making tweaks. The reverb pedal is by far my favourite, and believe me, I got it all night long. I walked in and left in a haze.

This was my first time listening to any of the bands, and I’m starting to see how writing these articles can be tough in that scenario. I miss the nuances of what they’re trying to do. Forgive me, it just means I’ll have to catch them all again.

Live on Elgin has the best washrooms of any venue in Ottawa, and a solid selection of 0% options at a reasonable price for all of us dry-jans.

Anyways, let’s get into it…
