I really thought leaving the classroom to travel the country as a speaker and facilitator was going to be all cute hotel rooms, exciting cities, and glamorous travel days.

Meanwhile… I’m dragging two bags through the airport, trying to remember what city I’m in, and walking into the hotel room like I just completed a full theatrical production by myself. 😂

But then I get to explore a new place.

I get to meet incredible educators.

I get to create spaces where the people who pour into everyone else finally get poured into, too.

So yes, the travel can wear me out.

And yes, I still love this life.

The adventure, the people, the purpose… all of it.

Where should this work take me next? 🦄💜

🦄 Amazing Women Series: Ayesis Clay, M.Ed. — Educator, Theatre Artist & Storyteller | Summer 2026 Update 🦄

🎉 In honor of 5 years of the Amazing Women Series, this summer I am celebrating by sharing updates from the Amazing Women I have featured over the years, PLUS giving an introduction & sneak peek of some of the women I will feature this fall.

I asked each woman to share what they are currently working on or creating & what they are most proud of. I'll let them share in their own words.

I first featured Ayesis Clay in 2022.

➡️ Ayesis is a nationally recognized educator, consultant, & multidisciplinary theatre artist with more than 24 years of experience supporting educational communities.

➡️ Through her company, @sculptedclay , she creates learning experiences that help educators navigate burnout, reconnect with their passion, and remember that their humanity matters too.

✨ What are you currently working on or creating?

"Right now, I'm creating experiences that help schools make room for the emotional lives of the people inside them.

🦄 Through my Unicorn Teacher Experience, I use my solo show, Sculpting Clay or How I Became Mother of Unicorns, as a live keynote and facilitated reflection experience for educators who are carrying burnout, compassion fatigue, and the invisible weight of school culture. It gives staff a chance to breathe, reflect, reconnect, & remember that their humanity matters too.

I'm also expanding Standing on the Edge, a professional learning community that uses theatre, storytelling, & creative reflection to help educators process the challenges they face and build stronger, more connected school communities.

🦄 In the next two months, I'm also leading Inside Out, a creative wellness intensive for arts educators, and Project TIGI, a youth theatre intensive where young people use Antigone as a springboard to explore justice, grief, courage, and voice.
Both projects are close to my heart because they remind me that theatre is more than performance. It is a way for people to tell the truth, build connection, and imagine something better together."

The Black Love Talk was an incredible space to RECEIVE advice, SHARE wisdom, and LEARN from one another. Nobody’s perfect‼️ But one thing is certain, before you can truly LOVE someone else, you have to learn to LOVE yourself. Being surrounded by a HEALTHY community helps make that journey possible.

Thank you to all the other amazing panelists for sharing the stage. To @dcnphc @monumentalmendc and @thegatheringspots thanks for hosting this event and giving us space to TALK.

Already looking forward to Part II ✊🏾🖤

✨ "Theatre builds emotional resilience by transforming lived experiences into healing, connection, and courageous conversation. This is what it looks like when stories spark change." 💪 From @ayesis @sculptedclay ❤️

🌈 Fun Fact: In Maryland, arts education is part of the public school curriculum. Most students are enrolled in at least one arts class, thanks to generous grants and support from local organizations, including the @mdartscouncil !!! Let’s keep growing awareness and support for arts in education! 🙌🎨

Some days, joy feels distant and all you can do is just be.

Hold space for yourself in those moments.
Not to fix.
Not to force a smile.
But to breathe.
To rest.
To remember that being human is enough.

You don’t need to be “on” all the time.
Even stars need the dark to shine. ✨
