If you struggle with fear, this is for you…

I was helping a homie try his first flat ground backflip a few days ago and it brought back some memories

Getting my self to huck my first backflip on skis was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done

The crazy part is that I had done 100s of backflips on trampolines and into foam pits by that time and I 100% knew I could physically do a backflip

It was getting over that wall of fear in my mind to just try it

If you’re reading this I know you’ve probably had that same feeling before. Like you know you can do it but you just… can’t

So here are some things I stopped doing that have allowed me to try the scariest tricks of my life in the last few years👇

1. I stopped expecting the fear to just go away

Fear keeps you alive. Fear is normal. Accept those truths and embrace the idea of doing it scared.

2. I stopped hucking and praying and started visualizing

If I can’t see the trick in my head clearly, I go back to the drawing board and make sure I have the foundation down.

3. I stopped thinking about the worst case scenario

I’ve had some serious slams over the years and a lot of them happened because I was focusing on what I didn’t want to happen. Always focus on what you want to happen!

4. I stopped letting myself sit at the top too long

The longer I sit up there, overthinking everything.. the more likely I am to talk myself out of it. 3,2,1, DROP is key

You would be so surprised at what you could do on skis if you could just get out of your own way

I’ve been working on my mental strength just as much, if not more, than my physical strength and it’s changed everything

My perspective on each moment👇

1. A good reminder that skiing is about having fun and expressing yourself. I was actually stoked on these one ski tricks😅

2. This was my first “banger clip” of the season. Never done this before. I battled it for 6 or 7 tries and the front 2 was a bonus and not intentional.

3. The @rockstargames course at @breckenridgemtn was so legit! I was worried they would tear it down and not let the public hit it. These were some of the biggest rails I’ve ever hit.

4. This was my first ski joring competition ever. It was a very humbling experience. Way harder than it looks. I was fired up to take 3rd though!

5. One of the best days of the season at @steamboatresort for the @dialedstudios_ Creator Summit. Fresh snow and an insane crew of amazing people.

6. I’ve been working on my dub 10s cause they are super inconsistent. A homie I used to coach who is better than me now recommended I throw my hips up HARD. I took his advice and accidentally went to dub 14. Very grateful I brought it to my feet and not my head.

7. This rail was super scary. Sw to sw was my dream trick but honestly didn’t think it was possible. @scuuuuuub convinced me to try it and I think I got it 2nd or 3rd try. Couldn’t be happier with this clip.

8. Another clip from @scuuuuuub and I’s shoot at @eldoramtnresort which may have been the best park day of the season. Vibes were just too good and @woodward__eldora just killed it this year. Took some slams trying this one and it was scary but I’m so happy about that clip.

9. I tried this trick at the @jibleague pro sessions last season and didn’t land it clean. I know you can’t see the landing but I did land it clean this time. Jib League is the best event of the whole season and it was an honor to participate.

10. Had way too much fun skiing @mammothmountain in April. I have never done a trick like this off a feature like this. I had to be so precise with my pop or it would turn out really bad. Missed the grab but still stoked on the shot.

Stoked on these moments despite a terrible snow year.

A few months ago (more than a few) I moved to a new home (again), I’m so so grateful for all the lovely people, things, and activities (and more) that I’ve been able to experience and explore (and now see from a seated position as I recover from ACL surgery) 🫶⛷️📸
