Filipino American History Month is not just about culture. This year, @fanhs_national —the organization responsible for FAHM—chose to highlight the impact of legislation like the 1935 Filipino Repatriation Act and the 1965 Immigration and Naturalization Act. Because we, along with our siblings from other communities, are absolutely affected by immigration. We wanted to honor Hispanic Heritage Month and FAHM in a way that was meaningful, educational, and could empower our students. I am so proud of our immigration event today with @sdcityaanhpi @sdcityurc @icanatsdcitycollege where we spoke on these shared issues and why solidarity is as critical as ever. Big ups to our @sdcitymentalhealth , too. We support our students, and to quote one of our especially feisty and brilliant ones @jv_shemmy “apathy allows oppression. If you let them f*ck with others, then we are all f*cked.” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
