Hi everyone, Just a heads up that something special is happening in San Diego’s South Bay on July 12, from 4–8 PM. Come by the DDG HQ rooftop for Unveil, a student-led event created to support emerging creatives and young entrepreneurs doing what they love. We’ll have Hiraya Flowers hosting an Ikebana workshop, Ragrat Vintage with handmade and upcycled apparel, and Atisó Coffee serving matcha and coffee. By showing up, you’re supporting local artists, small businesses, and helping grow South Bay’s creative economy. That’s what this is all about. Hope to see you there. Allan 👊🏾💥 P.S. One of the best parts of putting this together has been watching these emerging creatives build their businesses from the ground up. Their passion, hard work, and willingness to put themselves out there are inspiring. They’re investing in themselves, and that’s a win for San Diego’s creative community. Link in bio for tickets!

For the third year in a row, SDCCD held a design contest for students to create the logo that will be featured on the t-shirt to be worn by SDCCD participants on Saturday, July 18 during the 2026 San Diego Pride Parade. San Diego City College student Melinda Nguyen recently attended Chancellor’s Cabinet where she shared about her creative process and the final design selected by the SDCCD community. When asked what it felt like to know people would be wearing her design, she said: “It feels amazing hearing that it’s going to be worn by other people and seen by so many. It’s really an unbelievable experience.” T-shirts will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis at the SDCCD parade float staging area the morning of the Pride Parade. Those interested in joining the SDCCD contingent, can sign up and receive more information at bit.ly/2026-pride-parade Photo Descriptions Melinda Nguyen with the chancellor and the dean of student outreach Quote from Melinda - It feels amazing hearing that it’s going to be worn by other people and seen by so many. Congratulations! @sandiegocitycollege's design program has been ranked No. 1 in the world by the World Brand Design Society for the third consecutive year, recognizing the program’s continued excellence and global impact. The ranking reflects outstanding student achievement, with 53 awards earned across multiple categories. The recognition is especially significant for a two-year program, as many global design rankings do not traditionally evaluate community colleges. City College continues to stand out for the quality of student work and its ability to prepare designers for success in the industry. “As an alumnus of City College Design, I’ve experienced firsthand the program’s exceptional ability to prepare students for meaningful, competitive careers in the industry,” said Ami Ipapo-Glass, assistant professor in Design. “Now, as a faculty member, I’m continually inspired by the talent and momentum of our students, and honored to support and empower underrepresented voices in design. City’s emphasis on design thinking and strategy is what sets it apart and continues to position the program on a global stage.” In addition to the top ranking, City College students earned major individual honors. Tess Jordahl was named Student of the Year, selected from hundreds of students worldwide for her wine packaging project, while Jaimie McKay was recognized as a close second. City College students also received international recognition from The Design Kids, where Anna Barnett and Gizelle Farinas each earned bronze awards in the Branding category for their work. “This program has given me the tools to work alongside designers from the best design schools in the country,” said design student Benedict Allen. “The support from my professors and the structure of the program has prepared me to work at a world class design agency. It has truly changed my life and I recommend any student with a desire to work in the design industry to join this program.” At the regional level, City College students swept the One Club San Diego student competition, earning all 12 awards, including all three gold honors, competing against hundreds of entries from across Southern California. Eight people hold up gold and silver design awards
