Colorado - this is the week! Take action to freeze AI development and stop the arms race that is leading us to climate apocalypse. Stop data centers from moving in and destroying communities. Your voice matters to decision makers in the public utilities commission, city council, and beyond! This week you can choose your own adventure. You can comment online Tues to the public utilities comission to reject Xcel’s data center loopholes (info at https://tinyurl.com/puc-comments). You can join Tuesday’s student and youth-led walkout against AI (info at tinyurl.com/freezeai) and also come out Saturday to the GES cookout to Shut down Coresite! Swipe for more details!

Youth and student activists are rallying to freeze AI and stop intrusive mass surveillance and the data centers that house them! Signs provided or bring your own.
We’ll gather with students, professors, community members, and allies, with speakers sharing their testimony about how unregulated AI has impacted our lives, jobs, communities, and futures – and we’ll call for an immediate freeze on AI development now. We will specifically target the role of AI in pushing data center build outs across the state. We the people deserve a say, a stake, and basic safety, when it comes to big tech. Feat. Melat Kiros!

We’re organizing to say NO MORE DATA CENTERS and NO MORE DATA CENTER EXPANSION! We demand that our neighbors are protected from the harm caused by data centers and all extractive industries.

Join us Saturday, October 24 from 11am–2pm to gather with neighbors and families, share food and music, and take action together. 📍 Elyria Park ~ Johnson Rec 🌮 Community cookout 🎶 Music 🎨 Family activities ✊🏽 Art and community action It’s about more than one building or one data center. It’s about who gets to decide the future of our neighborhoods: corporations, or the people who live here. Come out. Bring your family. Bring your neighbors. Help us pack the park.

NO DATA CENTER EXPANSION. SHUT IT DOWN.

One of the best parts of organizing to elect movement champions, is when they SHOW UP. Melat is with us in the fight for a livable future, and that means standing against big tech, demanding a freeze on AI, and pushing back on the data center buildout. Ask yourself very seriously, are YOUR elected officials on the right side of history? That means everyone from city council, to the statehouse, the governor’s office, congress, and beyond. And don’t just look at their statements. FOLLOW THE MONEY 👀💸. The public OVERWHELMINGLY and bipartisanly is on our side, we deserve leaders who stand with the people.

Join us on Auraria Campus for “A Report-Back From Cuba” and hear firsthand from @_timhernandez on the dire situation Cubans face today, under an increasingly escalating U.S. blockade preventing the arrival of oil to the island, causing power outages, limiting access to clean water and healthcare, creating a real humanitarian crisis.

This educational event is part of the Global Week of Action Against U.S. Genocide in Cuba (10/24-10/31) set to take place on the Global Day of Action Against U.S. Genocide in Cuba, marking 34 years of the United Nations calling an end to the U.S. blockade.

The event is open to students, staff, faculty, and community members. Light refreshments will be provided. Find us Wednesday, October 28th from 12p to 1:30p in the GITA Library Space (Central Classroom Building, Rm 315, 10th St Plaza, Denver, CO 80204).

Denver, CO – In the afternoon on October 6, more than 30 people, led by Denver Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and the protest band Notes of Dissent, rallied and picketed outside the Tivoli Student Union building on Auraria Campus.

After over a year of campaigning for a sanctuary campus and a ban on ICE on campus, the Auraria Board of Directors still refuses to listen to the student body’s concerns about immigrant student safety if ICE were to come onto Auraria campus. While the Student Advisory Committee to the Auraria Board initially collaborated with Denver SDS on drafting a popular policy, Policy 7.7, to ban ICE from Auraria, they backpedaled and decided to no longer support the modified Policy 7.7, which would have banned ICE from being anywhere on campus.

“Thus far, the Auraria administration has taken the cowardly approach,” said Meadow Dunne, a faculty member of the Community College of Denver (CCD) located on the Auraria campus. “They refuse to stand up for what is right. I am calling for the administration to immediately pass and enforce an anti-ICE policy here on campus. None of us deserve to live in fear.”

Despite the board of directors’ and the student advisory committee’s resistance to protections for the student body, Denver SDS is not backing down. On September 16, they marched inside the Tivoli Student Union building up to the Auraria Higher Education Center offices and chanted outside their door for almost an hour before being forced to leave by the Auraria Campus Police Department.

Thank you to everyone who came out this morning to support the Centennial Protesters! Their next court date will be Thursday, December 10th at 10am. The protesters were successful in getting their state charges dismissed, and will fight to get the federal ones dropped too. Protesting is not a crime, drop the charges now!

Our comrade Nels gives the righteous students of Auraria a call to action: give the campus administration hell and make sure that the students are the ones to hold them to account. From his own experience as a former student activist, he stands with the conscious folks on campus to say: Dare to Struggle, Dare to Win!
