Had the pleasure of working on such an amazing project this past week. It was a challenge that truly pushed me, and showed me that anything is possible when you’re passionate and willing to sacrifice.I also gained a new friend who is an incredibly humble creative who truly cares about preserving true art.

Titled:
“I like it when you’re soft” •
@aya_shalkar new project featuring three sculptural steel blades: the Dagger, the Knife and the Star. The shapes of the pieces are based on the motifs of traditional Kazakh ornaments that are used for embroidery, patchwork and other forms of traditional applied arts predominantly practiced by women. This artwork is a materialization of a long-suppressed anger: soft, feminine shapes carved into imaginary cold weapons…

Laser-cut steel, hand-ground and polished by myself, 2022.

On display now at @saparcontemporary June 3 - July 15.
