“Before stepping into the ring, Cus D’Amato would repeat to Mike Tyson that you don’t exist, only the task exists. The moment you internalize what this really means, all self-doubt simply ceases to exist, because there’s no longer a self to doubt.
What’s left is total immersion in the task, which is what the flow state actually is, where there’s no “you” left to interfere, and action arises by itself, like second nature, faster than conscious thought, through the sheer genius of your unconscious mind.”

Everything is downstream of creating discrete, progressive, and interesting problems to solve.

Episcope was drafted by the #Brewers in the 5th round of the 2025 Draft out of Princeton University (Princeton, NJ). He is a 6’0” 210 lb. right-handed pitcher that worked out of the rotation in college and should continue to do so in pro ball. Episcope underwent Tommy John surgery as a senior in high school which, in turn, wiped out his first year of college. As a redshirt freshman for the Tigers in ‘24, his results were underwhelming (7.36 ERA in 44.0 IP) coming back from injury. However, he came out of the gates on an absolute tear in 2025 before another elbow injury ended his season after only four starts, requiring internal brace surgery (0-2, 3.15 ERA, 4 G, 4 GS, 0 CG, 0 SHO, 20.0 IP, 4 BB, 26 SO, 0.550 WHIP). Prior to his injury, his fastball was topping out at 97 mph to go along with two above-average breaking pitches (curveball & gyro-slider) which both register elite spin rates that are above 3,000 rpm. Episcope is scheduled to begin throwing off a mound this week for the first time since his latest procedure, and he should be on track for a return to game action mid-season. The 22-year-old will likely make a rehab appearance for the Rk ACL Brewers before joining A Wilson this summer. ETA 2029

Sean Episcope / @seanepiscope is currently progressing through his return to throw following Tommy John surgery and recently began experiencing medial tricep soreness during the middle phases of his throwing progression.

We looked deeper into how Sean was attempting to “wait” and unweight during his initial move and found that he was slightly moving against his structural allowances. Sean evals as a more compressed, wide ISA who loads best through shallow but strong entryways, yet still has the capacity and space to fully turn and clear. He is a unique case of power output ability. As we saw last spring, he was up to 99, and aesthetically his movements appear simple and compact.

During this recent stretch, Sean began patterning away from his optimal strategy by dumping his center of mass too far over the rear side. This caused him to spill harder toward the ground on the right side, which forced the body to compensate with an aggressive left-side pole in order to transfer the center of mass forward.

That compensation created a longer duration of front-foot ground force and too much space to the left for Sean to function within. However, he lacks the ability to fully clear and use that additional space, so there was no effective way for the torso and rib cage to turn and pull the arm forward. As a result, the right pec and tricep had to work harder to move the ball forward.

To address this, we reframed Sean’s loading strategy into a more shallow, longer-duration load into his right side and right hip shift, while having him hold that position into foot strike. This created usable space for him to clear through. It has allowed him to move the ball pain free, access true external rotation, and avoid relying on the arm to propel the ball forward as the center of mass retains better forward positioning.

He is now pain free and up to 88 in catch play, which matches the expected outputs that previously were not being reached due to the earlier movement issue.
