25 years after Save the Last Dance, Julia Stiles brought her iconic dance moves back to life on the Dancing with the Stars stage.

And as if that wasn’t enough of a throwback, her co-star Sean Patrick Thomas even made a surprise cameo for the ultimate reunion moment. If you grew up watching this movie, consider this your dose of nostalgia.

Four years ago today, TILL was released in theaters. 🖤🤍📽️

In 2021, our family had the rare opportunity to be part of the filming of TILL, the story of our cousins Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley.

Although the scenes Troi and I filmed didn’t make the final cut, I’ll never forget filming a dancing scene at Mamie’s wedding reception. Seeing actresses portray relatives I remembered from our childhood visits to Chicago was surreal. It brought back so many memories!

My sister Teri, Tré, and my nephew Makis also appeared in the film! The boys even got to meet Marci Rodgers, the film’s talented costume designer. What an experience for them to be part of a major motion picture telling our family’s story!

I was fortunate to attend the premieres in New York and Los Angeles. At the LA premiere, my mom, Deborah Watts, and my sister Teri were recognized for their work with the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, alongside other family members honored for their own efforts. Hearing civil rights icon Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams share her powerful words that evening was a moment I’ll always cherish.

I also want to recognize our longtime family friend Keith A. Beauchamp, co-writer and producer of TILL and longtime supporter of the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation. His decades of dedication to researching Emmett’s case and sharing our family’s story helped bring this film to the big screen.

This isn’t just a movie. It’s our family story. As painful as it is, it’s our truth, and it’s American history. Emmett’s murder helped reignite the Civil Rights Movement, and Mamie’s courage continues to inspire generations.

If you haven’t watched TILL, I encourage you to do so. And if you have, watch it again. 📽️

In Save the Last Dance 2001, Sara and Derek’s record store encounter was one of the scenes left out of the theatrical cut.

Director Thomas Carter revealed in his DVD commentary that the film’s first edit ran approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes before being trimmed down. This deleted moment gives us another glimpse of Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas together as Sara and Derek.

I can’t be the only one who went back and watched it and laughed at how unrealistic the whole thing was. Lmao my 13 year old ass LOVED that movie. Probably why I was sneaking into clubs on Chippewa in high school 🙊 sorry mom, i was just channeling my inner Sara, blame @missjuliastiles and @seanpthomas 😂😂

This is one of my latest paintings. It’s a carnival inspired piece. My family is from West Indies Grenada pronounced( GRE neh dah). My uncle loved mas ( known as carnival in the states). He always looked forward to mas in that he displayed such pride of his birth home. Even when they had Georgia Ave Day in DC he still displayed same pride. The background is the country side in Grenada walked through a few times when I was there 11 or so years ago
