From my hometown with LOVE ❤️ It was amazing to spend time in Nashville a few weeks ago for this year’s @naturbanleague conference. As usual, it always feels like a massive reunion with learnings and fun times in between. Getting to hear from Atlanta favorites like @spotonrw and being in the room with Vice President @kamalaharris were some of my biggest highlights.

I’m especially proud of my friends who won their national elections and will usher in a new era of leadership for @nulyp. Congratulations to @ashbaker03, who will become President, @ericatookthat who will become Executive Vice President, and @dukepa who will become Secretary. You all deserve this, and I can’t wait to see you lead and inspire us even more!

The other very exciting part was that our Atlanta chapter, @ulgayp, also won awards, including the highly coveted National Chapter of Excellence! As a former ELT member, I’m so proud of the executive leadership team and the members for all of their hard work and dedication that went into making this possible.

Even with all that is happening across our society, I’m always grateful to be a part of this movement. It’s easy to isolate and retreat, but choosing to stay civically engaged is one of the most courageous things we can do right now.

As the saying goes: Once an Urban Leaguer, always an Urban Leaguer! ❤️See y’all in Los Angeles in 2027! 🌟

The 2026 National Urban League Conference was more than a trip for ULGMYP, it was the fuel to energize our path forward. From the workshops to the late night conversations with young professionals from chapters across the country, our members came back ready to keep growing.

We also had the honor of bringing home the Hugh B. Price National Chapter of Excellence Award in the Ignite Chapter category, a reflection of the work our chapter poured into Greater Madison last year. We want to thank everyone who volunteered with us, donated supplies and time, and engaged with our events and programming. This work is about staying connected and building new relationships, all in service of impacting and investing in our community.

This conference is a reminder of what’s possible when we come together to strategize and build new skills to bring home. We’re leaving Nashville inspired and ready to put it into action.

This is bigger than a trip, it’s a Movement that grows stronger with every person who joins.

If you’re looking for a way to get activated in the community, volunteer, and grow professionally, join us at the Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals!

As the first African-American alderman to serve on the Wauwatosa Common Council 2022-2026. Elected for two terms, once in District 5 and District 6. It has been a pleasure. 🇺🇸
