Miles Skywalker was like a dream.

He appeared in my life in the spring of 2017 the way things seem to appear in dreams. Suddenly there, completely real, and somehow like he had always belonged. Then in the summer of 2025, the dream ended far sooner than I ever imagined it would.

The first time I ever took him to the Oregon coast, he was terrified. I assume he had never seen the ocean. But it quickly became his favorite place to be. Up and down the beach, running and swimming in the waves. He absolutely loved the Oregon coastline just as much as I do.

On September 2nd, 2025, we watched one last beautiful Lincoln City, Oregon sunset together.

A year later, the hole he left still feels bottomless and the sunsets without him settle a bit differently now.

He was my best friend, my muse, my furry co-pilot.

Grief has been the hardest teacher I have ever had. I’m still learning how to be thankful for the dream instead of only wishing I could have stayed in it.

Losing Miles has been a constant reminder that life is incomprehensibly short and to never skip a sunset.

I miss you every day Miles buddy.

Never thought I would get my skills and fitness back to a place to race in the Pro/Open category after having two babies and going through a divorce, but I freaking did it! I am extremely proud of a mid-pack finish in a group of fast, talented women, but the real win was finally feeling like my old fun, happy self again. It's so good to be back on the bike and regain my independence and identity.

The biggest challenge (aside from having limited time to train) was getting back in the mindset to push myself hard and take risks when I have two little people depending on me to care for them physically and financially. I struck a good balance between riding hard but also knowing my limits and keeping it slow and smooth on Predator.

Hands down, the best part of the Sturdy Dirty is the supportive community of badass women, which is what keeps me coming back to the race even when I think I'm done with racing forever. I've been doing this event on and off since 2015, and the friendships I've made here will last a lifetime. Thanks so much for creating this space for women @sturdydirtyenduro 💜

SHOVEL & SHRED 2026! WHAT A WEEKEND 🫶

We started this event in 2021 at North Mountain in Darrington, a weekend for women and non-binary riders to grow their skills and confidence by spending a day building trails, followed by a day of riding, alongside Evergreen builders and pro athletes.

This year we switched things up and sent it to Port Gamble in our @evergreenws chapter! After the last couple years of rain and even snow at North Mountain, getting two full days of warm temps and sunshine was sure nice at Port Gamble☀️

Together, we rebuilt Over Hard (finished and ready to ride!)🪏 sessioned new lines🤘 progressed with guidance from Evergreen instructors, @sweetlines , and @hannahbergemann 🚵‍♀️ raced Mario Party-themed dual slalom⭐️ party trained down Ranger🌲 and camped under the stars.

Big thanks to @transition_outpost for the hot dogs and suspension clinics, @sourdoughwillyspizzeria for the pizza, and @redbullusa for keeping us going all weekend!

It’s been a couple weeks since we lost our first love baby and it’s been so hard. Kada did everything with us for the last 14.5 years. She’s been a part of it all.
Thank you for your messages and comments and all your love. We feel it and appreciate it. Our friend Cassie made this video from her iPhone videos she took in Alaska. It’s been a fun reminder of all the good times. We sure miss our Kada mouse.
