At the end of August, I had the opportunity to spend a few days with @seawilding on Loch Craignish as part of their restoration school!

Having spent a large portion of my time at university researching the importance of benthic habitats, particularly native oyster reefs as part of my MSc thesis, it was fantastic to get out in the water and make a real contribution to habitat restoration.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Seawilding for putting this course together - and for all the amazing work they do to restore our vital marine ecosystems!

Huge thanks to the @bluemarinefoundation for inviting us along to their Parliamentary Reception on Wednesday evening. 🩵

Four of our operational volunteers, Chiara, Sree, Sophie and Thomas, attended and had some brilliant conversations. The event featured postcodes and insights from young people all across Scotland asking MSP's to protect our seas. The Ocean Coalition is working hard to bring this issue the attention it needs.

This reception was hosted by MSP Mark Ruskell, with several MSP's across the parties in attendance showing their support for Scottish seas. As well as more than 100 young people making their voice loud and clear, we need to protect our seas.

Climate change is not a future threat, it is not something to be left for future generations to struggle with. It's real, it's here and it needs all of us to work together to reduce its effects.

A dreich but fun day in the quarry with the @seawilding crew!

Yesterday, the team from Seawilding all completed their @molchanovsfreediving Wave 1 freediving course. I am hoping the skills gleaned from the course will assist in future conservation efforts and make the seagrass monitoring a wee bit easier 😊.

It’s a really exciting time for ocean conservation efforts here in Scotland and I am happy to have helped in a small way, for the future and ongoing success of the project!

Seawilding and Talisker Distillery are working to protect Loch Harport’s native oyster population, one of the rarest in Scotland. Chef Tom has always refused to use farmed fish.

We are proud to support Seawilding’s work to restore native oysters to the waters right outside our restaurant.

Back to restoration school this late August for three days with @seawilding

The Seawilding Garden, displayed at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, is thriving in its forever home.

Designed by @musalandscape, the garden and its planting is inspired by the landscape of Loch Craignish on Scotland’s west coast, home to the @Seawilding project. The rugged coastline is part of a rich marine environment where Seawilding is focusing on the reintroduction of two keystone species - seagrass (Zostera marina) and native oysters (Ostrea edulis).

Since the show, the garden has been relocated back to Craignish and is maintained by local volunteers. The majority of the garden now lives in the middle of the village of Ardfern, behind the primary school, which is called ‘Talamn An Righ’ (The King’s Playground) - a green space with a roundhouse that is used for community events. The remainder has been dispersed around the peninsula with the sculpture incorporated into a sculpture trail at Lunga.

Special guest on board of our Mustang!👀

We welcomed Jane Jones, the Scottish Food Commissioner, to see our ROV in action underwater 🌊

It was an all-female crew at Open Seas today, joined by our trustees Jean and Lorna. Lorna also works with @seawilding, a rewilding sea meadow project and you can see some of that gorgeous, lush seagrass meadow in the footage our ROV captured. 🌿

Marnik from @kilchoantrust joined us and took us for a look at their oyster nursery + lobster & langoustine pots (they count every single catch!) 🦞🦪

Bonus surprise: a spotted catfish showed up in the pots! Safely returned to the sea, no harm done 🐱🐟

Fun fact: catfish skin feels like sandpaper 🧽

One of the things that surprised me most about visiting Car-y-Môr wasn't just the seaweed—it was discovering how much life it supports beneath the surface.

The seaweed farms create habitats for juvenile fish, crabs and countless other marine species, while seals, seabirds and even dolphins are regular visitors. From above the water, it can look quiet. Below the surface, it's a completely different world.

It's a brilliant reminder that when we work with nature instead of against it, we can create businesses that produce food, support wildlife and strengthen our coastal communities at the same time.

Thank you to the team at Car-y-Môr for sharing their knowledge and showing me a side of Wales that so few people get to experience.

As the first boats from the @clipperrace come into Oban to rest in the harbour, we’re revealing something joyful we’ve been working on.

We asked creative producer and artist, @beth.aand to develop her idea of using Argyll’s shop windows to share marine arts.

Beth took part in our snorkelling artist residency last year. “Before taking part in the residency, I didn’t fully realise the global importance of the waters around Argyll.
With more people coming to the area, it feels like the perfect moment to share what the Hope Spot is all about.”

This curious and detailed collection of planktons and other marine creatures was created by @helenwoolston_ with Seawildlings, @georgia.crook.982 with Tayvallich Primary School and @holly_lrs with Lochnell Primary School. We love finding an opportunity to share and celebrate some of what the children have been working with us on during the school year and we think it makes a difference to people’s lives when they see it too.

The work is in @re_store_oban (thank you so much Re_Store!!) Make sure to check the work at night to reveal the shadow puppet behind the screen.

We’re part of a brilliant festival of events around the Clipper Races Oban stop organised by the Clipper Committee @wildaboutargyll, Bid4Oban, Argyll and Bute Council and @loveoban_.
