the weather was WEATHERING rain and wind all day made for a slower race than usual and definitely wasn’t expecting a trail run lol

missed a turn on the bike always do at the local raves

but beyond all of that, i’m just grateful to be healthy and running pain free again

this year has looked nothing like i imagined it would. a lot of setbacks, frustration, and lessons i never expected to learn

this sport is something God allows me to do, not something i was created to worship

God is a jealous God. He wants our whole heart, not just the parts we give Him when things are going our way. when we put Him first, everything else finds its proper place

i still have big goals. i still want to compete at the highest level. but my identity will never be found in a result, a podium, or a pro license

grateful to be back racing, grateful for the lessons, and grateful for a God who never stopped working even when i couldn’t see it

excited to line up at another 70.3 soon and keep chasing that PRO LICENSE

God first. everything else second. ✝️

Cal Tri Charlotte! 🐝

Congrats to all our members who competed in both the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons (and a swim run due to a flat) in Charlotte, NC over the weekend!

Weather was about as bad as it gets with cold rain and strong winds, but that didn’t stop these 8 from getting the job done. Now time for some hard off season training before we head to Gulfport, Mississippi on April 3rd for Collegiate Nationals 💪🇺🇸

Relive 24 hours of Ruff Ride PGH 🐾

From the first hour on Saturday morning to the last one on Sunday, this is what showing up for Veterans looks like. The bikes never stopped moving at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, and neither did our community. Together, we’ve raised $129,818 for service dogs for Veterans, surpassing our $125,000 goal!

A huge thank you to @pncbank , our presenting sponsor, and to all of our sponsors for helping make this event possible. To our volunteers, thank you for giving your time and energy to keep every shift running. And to everyone behind the scenes who worked all 24 hours to keep the event alive, Ruff Ride PGH exists because of you.

Fundraising is still open until this Friday, October 9, so there’s still time to give. Every dollar helps place an accredited service dog with an injured or disabled Veteran at no cost to them.

Over a year and a half ago, I did my first triathlon at Pitt. On Saturday, I completed an Ironman.

140.6 miles in 12:44:03.

I never knew how far that first race would take me, but here we are. It has been a whirlwind of a physical and mental journey, and as much as I don’t want to understate what it meant to cross that finish line, I think the journey there mattered far more.

I think there is something deeply meaningful about orienting your life toward a difficult pursuit. The destination gives you direction, but the value is found in everything between where you began and where you hope to go: in the experiences, sacrifices, suffering, uncertainty, and gradual transformation required to continue moving toward it.

Over time, the things that once seemed difficult become familiar, and pain becomes something to understand rather than something to run from. Limits begin to feel temporary. The transformation is slow and difficult to measure, but eventually you realize that the pursuit has carved you into someone capable of reaching the place that once seemed impossible.

Race day itself wasn’t perfect. A flat tire around mile 107, a few bloody elbows, and 140.6 miles gave me plenty of opportunities to question what I was doing. But by then, those difficulties felt familiar and the thousands of miles and hundreds of hours that came before had already taught me how to keep moving. By the time I reached the starting line, finishing an Ironman wasn’t really the point anymore. The journey had already given the finish its meaning.

Meaning is not the prerequisite for action. Action is the prerequisite for meaning. We become who we are through the things we repeatedly choose to pursue.

None of this journey happened alone and I’m incredibly grateful to my family and friends who supported me through the countless hours of training and everything that came with pursuing this. And a special thank you to @sebmlad for convincing me to do that first indoor triathlon and unknowingly setting all of this in motion.

From an indoor triathlon to 140.6 miles.

What a journey.
