coming to a wood-fired oven near you 2026 🔥
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
3 DAYS UNTIL OPENING! Join us this Saturday August 22nd as Where Walls Meet Sky opens inside the transformed interior of St. Anne’s Anglican Church, with an opening reception from 1 - 3pm! Everyone is welcome. One of the exhibition’s most unique projects is Sacha Bassil’s Bricks to Bread, a temporary wood-fired oven built from bricks recovered from the fire-damaged church. On Saturdays and Sundays (except Sept 5th & 6th) from 12 - 4pm throughout the run of the exhibition these salvaged materials will be transformed into a source of warmth, nourishment, and gathering as Sacha bakes and shares Lebanese style flatbread with visitors. A work about transformation in its truest sense: turning remnants of destruction into an act of hospitality. To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, we're thrilled to present Vita Contemplativa, a free evening of experimental music curated by Fan Wu. Exploring contemplation as both patient receptivity and disciplined attention, the program features performances by Sufferin Mall, Colby Richardson, and Felicity Williams with Robin Dann, Dorothea Paas, and Patrick O'Reilly. 📅 Saturday, August 22, 8:00 PM doors open Where Walls Meet Sky would not be possible with the support of so many amazing people: Lili Faier (Communications Coordinator & Graphic Design) Katie Saunoris of KSPR (Public Relations) Laurel Roeder (PR assistant) Calder Ross (Technical Coordinator) Arlene & Lynn Roeder (Volunteer Coordinators) Priam Thomas (Photographer) Shauna Kearns (brick oven lead builder) Fan Wu (Vita Complentativa curator) And a special thank you to Julie Hall (CAFKA Executive Director), Anahita Azrahimi (TOAF Executive & Creative Director), Rev. Hannah Johnston, Frank Cormier, Max Streicher, the St. Anne’s Board, Layne Hinton Jason Sanders (General Eclectic), Grassroots Advertising Inc. and all our wonderful volunteers. 📍 St. Anne’s Anglican Church 270 Gladstone Avenue, Toronto 📅 Opening: Saturday, August 22, 2026, with an opening reception from 1-3pm 🕛 Exhibition runs: August 22 – September 13 | Thursday–Sunday, 12–8 PM 🎟️ Free Admission Curated by Rui Pimenta.

Paratha Begum (@parathabegum) and Second Rise (@secondriseto) ran a Wood Fired Oven Stuffed Naan Workshop in Christie Pits today — the first of many to come🤞 We learned how to prep Naan dough and fill it with Bihari Beef filling & an Achari Paneer filling. I’ve had these at their pop-up in the park last October, so when I saw they were running a class on how to make them ourselves I had to sign up immediately! We ate a delish lunch that was paired with hot chai & veggies. Thanks to Noreen, Shauna, & Thunder for running an amazing workshop despite slightly unexpected torrential downpour😭 Make sure you follow them to see when they’ll host their next workshop and stuffed naan night in the park.

A couple of weeks ago @cosmosbaking @secondriseto and I hosted a by-donation wood-fired oven pop-up at Christie Pits 🔥 my mom jumped in to help too 😅 We served savoury stuffed naan along with hot chai. Our hearts were warmed by the community support and we hope to do it again soon 🌳
