This post is long overdue (a year, in fact). Guess I retired a little earlier than expected… fitting, since I do retirement planning now 🤣.

“You have pulmonary hypertension,” the doctor said. Those words changed the trajectory of my life.

I’ve played football since I was 5 years old. I’d experienced tough losses, painful injuries, and long rehabs, but nothing hurt more than being told I could no longer play football at UTRGV. In that moment, I had to pivot and discover a new purpose.

I always knew I loved two things: people and money. Get it Matthew Ogunrin Money (Mo-Money)… thanks @dxnielcrain. That led me to the financial planning and wealth management industry. While researching the profession, I discovered the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam. I bought a textbook, studied relentlessly, and immersed myself in an industry that gave me hope for the future.

Thankfully, further testing showed my heart was healthy. Even so, I wasn’t cleared to play at that school. I decided to transfer to a CFP Board Registered Program and, after many conversations with my family, came home to attend @universityofhouston @uhbauercollege.

Above all, I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In my lowest moments, He was Jehovah Rapha, my Healer. When I had little, He was Jehovah Jireh, my Provider. In every victory, He has been Jehovah Nissi, my Banner. I am nothing without Him.

To my family, friends, and everyone who supported me through one of the hardest seasons of my life—thank you. And to my biggest supporter, my mom, @tilly_aluko , thank you for your love, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me. I love you.

This past semester, I founded the Cougar Financial Planning Society. Watching our members earn internships and full-time offers, place second in competition, and become finalists for Wealth Management Awards has been incredibly rewarding.

As I walk into Melcher Hall for my final semester, I’m grateful for how God transformed one closed door into a calling. I hope to continue serving others, leading with integrity, and pointing people toward Christ.

thanking God for an amazing VBX week. wouldn’t wanna spend it doing anything else!! i have so much love for patriotic power and loved seeing God work through these kids. u.s.a all the way!!!
