HOW MY LIGHT IS SPENT Love, love, LOVED this incredibly quirky, beautiful and joyous production. ‘How My Light is Spent’ is filled with all the perfect ingredients theatre needs - humour, heart, superb writing, gorgeous set, sound and lighting, not to mention the PERFORMANCES. Jane and James, as always are a delight, bringing fully realised characters, who are impossible not to love. However, the space and detail afforded to the ensemble allows Renée Billing, Pita Lolohea and Kira McLennan all to shine, drawing us deeper into Alan Harris’s quirky, quick writing. Director, Braiden Toko, deserves all of his flowers for bringing this world to life. Every element and choice worked in tandem, producing a must watch piece of theatre. RUN RUN RUN to see this. You’ll leave the theatre better than when you entered it. SPOT ON ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We spend money. We spend time. We spend energy. But what does it mean to spend our light? How My Light Is Spent is funny, clever and unexpectedly moving. It could easily reduce its sex worker and lonely sex-line user to familiar stereotypes. Instead, externalised inner monologues and utterly believable performances reveal the people behind the labels. By physically representing life draining the light from its characters, the production makes exhaustion funny without making it trivial. Life will inevitably spend some of our light for us. Perhaps meaning lies in choosing where the rest of it goes—and finding people who can still see us as it fades. #Theatreflections #HowMyLightIsSpent #KXTOnBroadway #SydneyTheatre #SecretHouse

Super sweet Welsh dramedy How My Light Is Spent at @kxt_bakehouse a real little treat. At a swift 60ish minutes you could even go see a late Fringe show as well. Nice! Full review on the website. Link in the bio. Photo: Robert Catto.

⭐⭐⭐⭐½ Few characters in Shooting Hedda Gabler are allowed to keep their name. That’s the detail I haven’t stopped thinking about after the show finished. Everyone else is known by their role, their function, or the character they’re playing, but Henrik remains a complete person. What begins as a film adaptation of Ibsen’s classic gradually becomes something far more unsettling: a story about passion, ambition, artistic obsession, and what happens when the work becomes more important than the people creating it. A gripping production that asks not whether great art requires sacrifice, but who gets to decide what is sacrificed, who bears the cost, and who benefits from the result. A superb cast led by a commanding central performance, brought to life through clever staging that constantly blurs the line between performance and reality. #Theatre #SydneyTheatre #Theatreflections #ShootingHeddaGabler

1) A play within a play exposing the line between truth and performance is always a fascinating premise, and this production really takes those boundaries beyond uncomfortable towards surreal. 2) The Nordic element adds these intense, chilly layers of psychological gaslighting to the plot leaving you wondering if these characters are actually psychopathic or just deeply dysfunctional. 3) Tonally, the plot is completely all over the place but it captures the volatile, chaotic, ridiculous messiness of ego-driven artists - anyone working in the biz will instantly recognize that backstage - and onstage “reality” 😉 Faith’s full review will drop soon! @secrethouseco @seymoursydney @faith_in_theatres_ @kabukupr #shootingheddagabler #supportindependenttheatre #sydneytheatrereviews #faithintheatres
