Protecting What Keeps You Working: Tackling Van and Tool Theft in South Wales

At SECUREIT, we rely on our fleet of vans and vehicles to deliver critical fire prevention and security solutions across South Wales. That’s why we understand—first-hand—the frustration and disruption that tool theft from vans causes to hardworking tradespeople.

Recent reports have highlighted just how widespread the issue is. According to NFU Mutual, more than three-quarters of tradespeople have experienced theft from their vans. A similar survey by Screwfix found that 66% of tradespeople have had tools stolen or vans broken into.

The cost of theft goes far beyond just replacing tools—it can severely impact your ability to work, cause delays for clients, and lead to significant financial loss. As a business that works closely with trades and construction professionals, we’re committed to helping reduce this risk through smart, proactive security measures.

Here are three simple but effective steps we recommend:

1. Remove tools from vehicles overnight
It may be inconvenient, but it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent loss. Always take high-value tools inside when vehicles are unattended for extended periods.

2. Park with purpose
Where possible, park in well-lit, secure locations—ideally behind locked gates or within compounds equipped with access control systems and monitored CCTV.

3. Install a tracking device
Should the worst happen, GPS tracking systems can help recover stolen vehicles or tools quickly and provide vital information to authorities.

At SECUREIT, we offer reliable, advanced security solutions for individuals and businesses across South Wales, including Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Swansea, Llanelli, and Merthyr Tydfil. Whether you’re looking to protect a single van or a whole depot, our systems are designed to give you peace of mind—day and night.

Speak to our expert team today and find out how we can help secure what matters most to your livelihood.

At SECUREIT, we’re seeing more businesses realise the value of solar-powered, AI-enabled CCTV systems. Our solar mobile CCTV towers are not just built for the British climate—they’re built to outperform expectations, whether it’s 25°C and sunny or the clouds decide to roll back in.

Fast to Deploy. Easy to Relocate. Built to Last.
Our towers are designed for flexibility. No cabling. No trenching. No waiting weeks for set-up. We can get your system up and running in no time, across Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Swansea, Llanelli, Merthyr Tydfil, and many other locations across South Wales.

At SECUREIT, we believe that great businesses don’t just deliver products — they build people. That’s why we were pleased to read about the Career Development Institute’s (CDI) recent Valuing Careers campaign, launched at the Senedd.

It also emphasises the unique advantage in Wales, where government-funded services like Careers Wales provide accessible, all-age guidance. This integrated approach is essential to helping individuals fulfil their potential while meeting the evolving skills needs of the Welsh economy.

At SECUREIT, we stand firmly behind this initiative.

We know from experience that career development changes lives — and strengthens businesses. Over the past two decades, we’ve seen apprentices become engineers, trainees rise to leadership roles, and talented professionals from across industries find a long-term home with us.

Rising Business Crime Highlights the Need for Smarter Security Solutions from SECUREIT

Across the UK, business crime is escalating at an alarming rate, with recent figures revealing a significant surge in both theft and violent incidents. According to new data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), there are now over 2,000 incidents of violence and abuse each day — more than triple the rate in 2020. This includes threats with weapons, physical assault, and verbal abuse.

Theft and property damage are also on the rise, costing businesses billions annually. In Wales alone, commercial theft and related security breaches now total around £100 million each year, affecting not just retailers, but offices, industrial sites, logistics hubs, and hospitality venues.

At the same time, confidence in police response remains low. Many businesses feel increasingly isolated when it comes to preventing crime and protecting staff, customers, and assets.

That’s where SECUREIT comes in. As one of Wales’ fastest-growing providers of fire prevention and CCTV security solutions, we specialise in helping businesses of all types and sizes reduce their risk and increase their resilience.

Our services include:

24/7 CCTV surveillance with live monitoring by trained professionals

Access control systems to secure high-risk areas

Smart alarms and fire detection systems

Rapid response protocols tailored to your environment

Full site risk assessments and bespoke system design

Understanding Fire Alarm Regulations — What Every Business Needs to Know

If you own or manage a commercial building in Wales, fire safety isn’t just a responsibility — it’s a legal requirement. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, also known as the RRO, businesses are required to take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of fire and ensure safe evacuation.

At SECUREIT, we help businesses navigate these regulations and put robust fire protection systems in place. Here’s a brief overview of what you need to know about fire alarm requirements:

Key Fire Alarm Responsibilities Under the RRO:

Fire Risk Assessment

Every business premises must have a current and documented Fire Risk Assessment carried out by a competent person. This forms the foundation of your fire safety strategy.

Detection and Warning Systems

If your risk assessment identifies a
need for a fire alarm system (which is the case for most commercial properties), you must install one that is suitable for your premises — including appropriate detectors and sounders.

Emergency Routes and Exits

Safe and clearly marked escape routes must be maintained, with fire alarms linked to alerts for quick evacuation.

Maintenance and Testing

Fire alarm systems must be regularly tested and maintained, typically once a week for alarms and at least twice a year by a competent technician.

Staff Training

Employees must be trained on how to respond to alarms and participate in regular fire drills.
