Let’s go to the market! Disclaimer: I am a recovering shopaholic (millennial here speaking 🙈) so to minimize the damage to the family budgets I often go on a local thrift. It’s fun, it’s cheap and it’s great cardio, BUT a few tips needed before you head out. If you cringe at the idea, slide for pretty pics, if you are serious about Zim treasure hunting read the comments under next slides. ➡️

Pictured: vintage silk kimono from my next vintage drop (not sourced in Zim - sorry! Come find me though in September) with Everlast vintage shorts (from the Comesa market!)

Tip 1
Hydrate (but only take a small bottle that fits inside your bag - I GUARANTEE you will leave your carry on one liter good girl water bottle in the first 5 minutes of a haze going through the piles - happens every time) and wear comfortable clothes. Blend in.

Tip 2
Don’t go there for a hundredth floral viscose (or worse - polyester 😱) dress, you’ve got enough 🙈 You really, really do. Aim for cool 80s and 90s silk and linen dresses and vintage active wear from the same era - like shorts and wind breakers.

Pictured: silk camisole from the upcoming vintage drop (nope won’t find her kind at the market either - sorry!) paired with Everlast shorts from Comesa market.

Tip 3
If you see something you think your friend might like - get it!

Tip 4
Denim - look for American brands like Levi’s (the holy grail), Lee, Madewell etc. and stay away from stretchy fabrics. The best jeans will usually be found at the men’s stall.

Tip 5
Find a local tailor and never leave him. Take the before mentioned men’s jeans to alter accordingly.

Tip 6
Breathe.

Tip 7
Most of my favorite blouses in the wardrobe were found at Zim flea markets. When you get the urge to buy that floral dress, swap for a blouse. Just once.

Tip 8
Remember your tailor? Take your shirt to him to sew on a missing button or remember what your grandmother taught you

Tip 9
Now, for the most important part.

Tip 9
Girl Math!!! Take all the money you just saved and buy yourself some jewelry. Sorry, family budget! That’s it for today and you are welcome 🫶🏻

To slow down - to have a stove kettle, to walk barefoot, to write letters, to receive letters, to plant, to remember your roots, to not do anything at all, to do lots, to catch up, to touch down, to expand, to go backwards to go further, to search and not find a four leaf clover, to keep searching, to hug, to inhale 🫶🏻
