Yesterday, I talked with a former student about what her company was doing about Black Lives Matter. She said they kept asking what they could do, and like most Black employees, she was remaining quiet, so, I gave her talking points she and her coworkers should ask for. Then, I wrote it out loud and shared this list on social media.

Ten (10) asks and things black employees need to discuss with their white corporations and organizations about institutional racism that exists so they can stop sending out Black Lives Matter empty statements. It’s vital to seize the moment to get to the CEO who keeps asking how can we support you…

In this week's episode of #WereTiredAF, several African women have spoken up about workplace toxicity at OkayAfrica, the New-York based publisher under CEO Abiola Oke.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The alleged behavior ranged all the way from withholding employee benefits to insulting employees behind their back to yelling at staff members.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣On top of the matter, 2 women (who are not former OkayAfrica employees) have separately accused Abiola of sexual harassment. ⁣⁣⁣
Anyway, a few of these ladies dipped out of OkayAfrica and have now set up a dope marketing agency called @FourTwoCreative so be sure to check them out and send them 💙⁣⁣⁣

The Facts are Black Women get abused, Black Women are not supported, exalted, Black Women get taken advantage of, exploited and miss-treated in this industry and also sadly get abused by our own. Black Women I believe you, Black Women I support you, Black Women I don’t support or condone anyone that does this even if they’re a friend. #OkayAfricaWomen I stand with you!

Sb: My hope is that with us amplifying these black women's voices, it will serve as a call to action for @okayafrica @okayplayer and all organizations that employs women, especially BLACK Women to create and maintain a culture of respect, equality and fairness. Do BETTER!!!

I stand in solidarity and support of @seenahgee and @fourtwocreative .... I’m not playing politics and games when it comes to defending, protecting and supporting black women. There is no culture without black women, we must amplify and support our Queens in this business at all cost. #Life

In “The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action” poet and activist Audre Lorde writes; “for every real word spoken, for every attempt I had ever made to speak those truths for which I am still seeking, I had made contact with others while we examined the words to fit a world in which we all believed, bridging our differences. It is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence. And there are so many silences to be broken.” We stand in solidarity with our friends and peers speaking out against the devaluation of Black women at @okayafrica, and call for reflection, response and remedy.
