“This is the true Lakeland of the fellwalker, the sort of terrain that calls him back time after time, the sort of memory that haunts his long winter exile. It is not the pretty places – the flowery lanes of Grasmere or Derwentwater’s wooded bays – that keep him restless in his bed; it is the magnificent ones. Places like Great End...” - Alfred Wainwright

📍 Bowfell (902m)

Fridays hike turned into an absolute monster.. original plan was to hit 4 Wainwrights, and have a simple day⛰️
Only to get to the top of Bowfell and see Scafell Pike in all its beauty.
After a very quick team discussion, the hike turned into 6 Wainwrights, 14.5miles and a trip to the Highest Mountain in England🔥

What. A. Day.
You have not heard the last of this day🥾

Reflections…

I think this is one of my favourite photos from the weekend. Bolton Abbey is one of the prettiest settings I’ve ever been to, I can’t believe how green it all is… like so green!!!🌳🌿🌱💚

I’m nearly done now with all my Yorkshire Dales spam! 😂

Bolton Abbey Estate 🏛️

Huge thanks to @a.d.w.vanadventures for recommending visiting this place.

Having never done the Yorkshire Dales before, we’ve been blown away with how beautiful the area is and how much there is to see and do, on the Bolton Abbey Estate alone.

We parked at Barden bridge, parking on the Bolton Abbey Estate can be pre booked, however we paid £15 on the day, and this allowed you to move between the car parks. What I loved is that they show you how that money is reinvested back into the estate.

We then walked from Barden bridge along the Strid to the Pavilion where we had a little Prosecco pit stop, before carrying on. Lots of activities in this area for children, including a pop up beach and pirate ship.

In total we covered just over 5 miles, of fairly easy walking, with some elevation.

We are already planning our next adventure with a list as long as our arm of things to do!

Side note if travelling with dogs, check which areas they are permitted. The valley of desolation does not allow them!

A storm is coming…

Felt like the grid needed some drama… and I feel this photo represents my current mood over the weather and distinct lack of sun!!! 😂

I took this at Amble on an overcast day, but I love how moody it turned out, proving I guess that we don’t always need the sun!

Golden Hour 🌅

I love sunsets, mainly because I can stay up longer to take a picture… sunrise is non negotiable at the minute 😂

Last Nights was a beauty, the fields were glowing under the last of its warmth 😍

Following on from our Earl Grey Tea post earlier in the week, this is Howick Bathing House. I took this last weekend, it was incredibly moody & atmospheric with the mist rolling in.

A favourite amongst photographers. During the day it’s remote location with the waves crashing in, provides drama.

At night it’s astrophotography that brings people here.

The same Earl that had the tea blended, commissioned this bathing house in the early 19th century. Used by his family, specifically his children as a retreat to go swimming at Howick Haven, a secluded cove overlooked by the house.

Today the property is used as a holiday let. I would love to stay here, anyone else?

The vote is in, and you have spoken…

it’s an even vote for coastline and mountains, so I’ve gone with a lighthouse instead 😂😂. We appear to be lacking one anyway!!

This is Amble South pier lighthouse, built early 20th century. It is one of two, at the mouth of the river Coquet at Amble. It’s flashing red light provides navigational aid for boats entering the harbour.

It’s also not a bad photography spot, I love walking along here watching the boats come and go.
