The History Film Forum presents “Faith Healers”, with director Regina Aquino.

The History Film Forum proudly presents Faith Healers, in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.

Faith Healers explores the history of doctors who left the Philippines to care for patients in the United States.

The documentary traces Dr. Zorayda Lee-Llacer’s journey to the United States and her contributions to American healthcare. Against the backdrop of the colonial relationship between the United States and the Philippines, the film examines the challenges and achievements of a vibrant Filipino American community that grew just outside the nation’s capital in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Along with the story of Dr. Lee-Llacer, the film explores the experiences of second-generation Filipino Americans and examines how the Philippines continues to shape their identities from afar. Faith Healers is ultimately a story of sacrifice, service, community, and the preservation of Filipino American history.

After the screening, enjoy a panel conversation with:
Regina Aquino (writer, director, and executive producer of Faith Healers)
Dr. Zorayda M. Lee-Llacer (physician)
Professor Erwin R. Tiongson (Professor and Director of the Global Human Development Program, Georgetown University)
Moderator: Ryan Lintelman (curator, National Museum of American History)

*PLEASE NOTE THE TIME HAS CHANGED FROM THIS GRAPHIC, THE SCREENING IS AT 7pm and DOORS ARE AT 6pm.*

As a DMV born and raised Filipino American, I’m so proud to announce a dream come true. @faithhealersdoc, about local Filipino doctors and their impact on American and Filipino healthcare, will screen at the Smithsonian Museum of American History! I remember my first field trip to the museum when I was in 5th grade. Now, during Fil Am History Month, my love letter to Filipino contributions in this very community is featured at the Warner Bros. Theater. And as a cultural advisor on the historic Fil Am exhibit, “How Can You Forget Me?,” the first ever Filipino exhibit at the Smithsonian, I couldn’t be more proud of Filipinos finally getting the recognition they deserve from this incredible institution. Thanks to @smithsonianapa for this honor. Our whole team hopes that you will join us, the link is in the bio!
