If He speaks I might not agree but I must listen. ”They offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭15‬:‭23‬ ‭NET‬‬ In the same chapter it says that Jesus took a sponge full of vinegar but not the wine mixed with myrrh. My first thought was why could it be that he denied the wine mixed with myrrh, but he took the vinegar. According to the Talmud, a person who is being led out to be killed should be given wine mixed with myrrh to ease the pain (Proverbs 31:6). Jesus refuses this offer that would have reduced the pain. The first thing that happens if a person drinks vinegar is that the throat is damaged. Vinegar is made to kill bacteria, mold and bad odors for household use, among other things. So it is not good for humans to drink. Jesus took this cup and drank from it and then breathed his last and said “it is finished” Jesus emphasized with his action and took no shortcuts in his process. He was offered to ease his pain but denied it. Everything that was written and said about him would be fulfilled. The Father’s will would be done in EVERYTHING. An offer was made, a decision was made and the consequence was to take the pain all the way for the sake of humanity. Jesus you did not compromise on a single decision, choice or opportunity. You made sure to follow the Father’s will even though he abandoned you for a moment. You walked in obedience and in love to the Father’s will.
