Marrakech to Manchester: Merchant Stories is the second story carpet of Tales Across Borders. The latter is organized under the high patronage of his majesty king Mohamed the sixth by @thestorytellersunion in collaboration with @mjccgov and @icesco.official. The main partner and enabler for Merchant stories is: @britishacademyschmar. The venue partner is @lesetoilesmaroc

The event revolved around the stories and histories around the era of the Moroccan Sultan Ahmed AL-Mansur and the English Queen, Elizabeth the first.

The success of the event would not be possible without our dear artist from both Kingdoms:

@brahimdaldali @alastairkdaniel @hanae.ghaly @johnrowstory @seftownsend @karimalami.off @o.b.fanousprod

I would also love to show my gratitude to @korsancharafeddine for managing our logistical challenges.

11:30am - 12:30pm

Bow Arts Courtyard, 183 Bow Road, London E3 2SJ

Come along to this spellbinding, interactive performance with local storytelling trio East3, as they explore the importance of celebrating and sharing your language and culture through song, dance, stories, and folktales.
Rooted in real London stories from Bangladeshi, Jewish, East End communities and more, this performance will dive into the multicultural fabric that makes London - and specifically east London - what it is, as well as the power of lived language, translation, and creativity.
This performance is interactive, inclusive, and open to children and families of all ages. There will also be small tasters available of food from some of East London’s many cultures.

East3 is made up of storytellers Shamim Azad and Sef Townsend, and musician Paul Burgess. Dedicated to celebrating London’s diversity through intercultural collaboration and sharing, East3 has performed at events and festivals including the Tower Hamlets Boishaki Mela, and Great Day Out in Victoria Park.

East3 emerged from the East storytelling project run by Bethnal Green-based Daedalus Theatre Company in association with BSK UK and Rua Arts. This long-running initiative, led by Shamim, Sef and Paul, has brought together people from East London’s different cultures, religions and ethnicities

Forever going back and forth on this one so just going to post it in its current state.
.

I set myself a challenge of painting a blurry David and Sef in a window reflection, a test to follow and trust a set of shapes and colours and see if their characters might still emerge. In summary, it was bloody difficult but was a decent exercise in composition, judging tonal values and trusting observation.
.

Now it’s posted, I’ll prob spot a million mistakes (something about the jump in scale onto a small screen that makes you notice mistakes). Expect more of this painting soon!

East Storytelling approaching the issue of telling difficult stories, or stories that might be dangerous to tell. Link in bio (20 mins video)
.

Stories are powerful.
At the time, true stories can be difficult to tell and are often shared as folktales but in time the true story can be told.
