The historic environmental movement as a multiracial endeavor, that's the story Stevie Ruiz tells in his brand new book. He talks about his book, followed by a conversation with Cathy Gudis. Find out: What is TEK to MEK? Who cooked the multicourse feasts for John Muir in the woods? When did environmental justice really start (hint: it was before the 20thc)?🔥Thurs, May 14, 3:00 PM @ UCR, CHASS Inter-disciplinary Building South in Rm 1113. 🔥 Sorry--it's only in person! But we wanted to spread the word, 🎤 🎤because he gets right at IE people's histories of extraction from the land and labor as it relates to the environmental histories right here--not somewhere green out there and not just since superfund started. #environmentalhistory #iehistory

“I call hunger a technology because I see a pattern repeating across different times and places in twentieth-century America: hunger is produced, on purpose, to get people (or animals) to do something.“ - Dana Simmons, author of On Hunger: Violence and Craving in America, from Starvation to Ozempic, published by @UCPress Check out some recent highlights from our recent Sustenance Conversations event with Dana Simmons (@UCRiverside) and Charlotte Biltekoff (@UCDavis), presented by UCHRI and the UC Humanities Network. 🌿🎬 SPRING GM 1: “HERE NOW" SCREENING W/ SEHE DEPARTMENT 🎬🌿 Welcome back, everyone! We hope you had a great spring break. We’re starting the new quarter with our first collaboration of the quarter alongside @sehe_ucr for a climate-focused film screening and conversation. Join us as we screen “Here Now”, a climate change documentary that invites us to reflect on how climate awareness intersects with mental health, not only in terms of outcomes, but in how we process, cope, and respond to a changing world. We’ll begin with a brief intro from both LEAP and SEHE, then settle in for a screening-style meeting. Also, there will be a Chronic Tacos taco bar for you to enjoy. 🌮 Come by, ease into the quarter with us, and be present here and now. 📅: Monday, April 13th, 2026 ⏰: 4–6 PM 📍: HUB 265 #ucr #ucrleap #ucrsehe #mentalhealth #climateawareness
