POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last month I joined fellow members of the Conservation Collective network at our annual Global Gathering at Ardtornish Estate in the Scottish Highlands.

Bringing together environmental foundations from around the world, the gathering is an opportunity to share ideas, learn from one another & explore innovative approaches to conservation and nature recovery.

One of the highlights was an early morning stomp to see the Konik ponies of Ardtornish alongside equine ethologist Bonny Mealand.

The herd forms part of Tìr Àlainn na Mara (Gaelic for “Beautiful Land of the Sea”) a large-scale nature recovery project covering Ardtornish’s 12,000 hectares of the Morvern peninsula. The project is restoring and reconnecting a landscape of fragmented biodiversity, from rainforests to saltmarsh, from the summits to the sea.

One of the ways it is doing this is through the Wilder Grazing Project, which reintroduces cattle and Konik ponies as natural grazers to help kick-start natural ecological processes and support the long-term recovery of a landscape with much diminished, but still precious, wildlife.

Koniks are particularly well suited to this role. Hardy, intelligent and able to thrive year-round in challenging conditions, they graze, browse, trample vegetation and disperse seeds, creating a rich mosaic of habitats that benefits everything from wildflowers and insects to birds and regenerating woodland.

It was a privilege to see first-hand how these remarkable ponies are helping shape the future of one of Scotland’s most extraordinary landscapes.

Enormous thanks to our hosts Jane & @hughraven

We are now live! ⏰ From today, all donations to @conservationcollectiveorg will be matched via biggive Earth Raise. Head over to the link in bio today until 29th April to support CC’s work protecting and restoring nature at the grassroots.

Since 2020, Conservation Collective has launched, supported, and grown 20+ locally rooted Foundations, each mobilising resources to support effective, frontline nature restoration initiatives. Together we’ve raised over £22 million across our global network, supporting 700+ projects across the UK, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Indian Ocean.

Conservation Collective’s core approach is at the heart of this progress: bringing in new donors, sharing best practices, and amplifying impact across the network. Sadly, unrestricted core funding is among the hardest to secure—yet it’s what makes everything else possible. That’s why we’re taking part in Earth Raise 2026 to help us maintain the resilience our work demands.

Join CC’s mission to scale global nature philanthropy during Earth Raise via the @conservationcollectiveorg link in bio.

Cannwood Farm is a place that holds the heart of our mission here at CC - to protect nature and restore what has been lost. On our tour we ambled through restored wood pastures with native horned cattle roaming free and evidence of our most valuable ecosystem engineer: the beaver (see photos!). These keystone species — grazing, browsing, rooting, dam building — have helped restore the landscape back to open glades, scrub, wildflowers, and rich wetland, showing what can happen when we allow nature to do what it does best.

Thank you @bengoldsmith and @jade.summer for hosting such a spectacular day!

Partnerships, support and collaboration are the lifeblood of what we do at CC, but what matters most is connection - both to each other and to the natural world.

Together we can protect and restore the wild places we know and love 🌿

Future-gazing by the fire🔥 Thank you to our Co-Founders @bengoldsmith and @jade.summer for hosting us all today at Cannwood Farm. It was the perfect backdrop to discuss exciting new CC UK Foundations, nature recovery networks and strategies to expand philanthropy here on our doorstep.

We were then treated to a rewilding tour and marvelled at the beautiful and highly engineered ecosystem created by the resident family of beavers 🦫

The woodland is filled with the sound of much life - it really reminded us all of the power of rewilding 🌱
