The latest Xchange jam concluded Rua Red’s annual performance festival. This years edition "Cross // Ways Tallaght”, curated by Francis Fay and Olivia Hassett, also featured a mentorship program for student/graduates. Great to have such a good turn out, including Bbeyond members and others who travelled to Dublin. Photography: Fenia Kotsopoulou @feniakotsopoulou and courtesy of Rua Red.

Here are some images from our latest durational performance, DO I SOUND, at Meinblau Projektraum.

A huge thank you to Elo Masing and Dolanbay for the wonderful organisation and for making this project possible.

This 9-hour durational performance was a very special experience — full of emotions, sounds, and intense moments. I feel truly honoured to have been part of this project.

selina uses performance art to explore spaces that allow for marginalised voices, fragments and the imperceptible connections that conflict shatters, to emerge.
They are particularly interested in how site responsive performance art can create spaces outside of language allowing expansive readings of barely perceived stories in and around conflict.
Through performance, sound and poetics they are developing a methodology of what withnessing can be within performance art practise to dys-cover, un-cover and re-cover the resonances trapped in ruins, utterances and hauntings.
selina is a founding member of SITE- a queer collaborative group making work in the public realm, a member of Live Art Ireland, PAE-Aktionslabor e.V. and an associate artist at Performance Space, UK.

Introducing: selina bonelli
Photo:Thomas Reul

with remains

Throughout my research I have collected objects and materials from the landscape of research specifically pertinent to material withnessing and site specificity, through solo and collaborative performances taking place at abandoned conflict architecture. These places include Northern Ireland, France and Italy. They are at contested borders of small boats, migration and post war defences.

They form part of the material withnessing that underpins my research and practise-based writing rooted in a post qualitative, queer and neurodiverse enquiry. It also looks at decentering the western academic authorative voice in favour of the multiplicity of ethnographic, decolonial (with all its issues – references to Achille Mbembe) trans-inclusive feminist and poetic voices.
The thesis itself explores the ways we can un-earth some of the agents and factors that allow spaces for marginalised voices through a deep listening with the landscape and the sites of conflict in and around it. It looks at what a response-able (referencing Donna Harraway) withnessing (referencing Bayo Akomolafe) can be -with the more than human and through site specificity in performance art actions, intra-actions (Karen Barad), gestures and imaginings. In attempting to feel the silence with these spaces and places, performance art is part of the ‘toolset’ used to re-cover, dys-cover and un-cover the ‘othered’ fragments that are imperceptible yet sensed.

My work is an enquiry into embodied forms of knowledge and the traces carried over within somatic and cellular memory as well as actual, felt and vibrational material memory. The materials, their own informed source of withnessing are both directly and indirectly link to the sites, searching for the gaps of holding on a personal, collective, material and more than human level.

Do I Sound brings together performance artists and sound artists within a shared durational event. Within this performative framework, doing, listening, and presence are continually informed by the experience and perception of time and space. Sound and movement emerge through their relation to an unfolding process, shaped by the temporary collectivity of bodies inhabiting a shared environment. The performance develops through the accumulation of acts, gestures, sounds, silences, movements, and encounters, without being directed towards a predetermined outcome.

Do I Sound responds to the urgency of being present within a world marked by multiple and overlapping crises, uncertainties, and forms of instability. Rather than attempting to represent these conditions, the performance creates a space in which presence itself becomes a practice: an attentiveness to what is occurring and what might remain unresolved.

Free entrance.

EQUINOX
Is an international day for public actions for freedom for all people. Each year on the Equinoxes, (~20.03. and 22.09.) the duration of day and night is approximately equal around the globe. In this spirit of cosmic equality, the event serves as a global connection for people performing together in public spaces. This sharing of time and space brings us closer together as a temporary (global) community by encouraging non-violent expressions for locally specific conditions through performance art. Everyone is welcome to participate with openness and in solidarity, embracing and embodying diversity whilst acknowledging each other’s individual circumstances, difficulties, and conflicts.

A year ago, we went with @alex.petro on an incredible adventure to Estonia. The Kordon residency in Hiiumaa became a reference point and a true milestone in our artistic journey. It’s impossible to describe this project in just one post — so get ready for more soon!

Besides working on our project we had great time exploring local forests and its treasures.

Dott 15, a mini-bunker within the island’s vast military architecture system, became our focal point. Our goal was to heal the spirit of the space and to encourage people to reimagine military structures as part of everyday life.
