Despite the political and economic challenges that Tunisia has faced, Tunisia remains a country with a hugely diverse and rich cultural heritage, stunning landscape, and a vibrant society.

Since the Tunisian revolution and the Arab Spring just over ten years ago, the country has been in political unrest, causing high unemployment levels and an unstable government. This adds to the multitude of reasons why it is so important for businesses such as to reinvest back into Tunisian commerce and support local artisans. “When I arrived there, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. It was like finding a sanctuary where I could escape the chaos and stress of my daily European life and reconnect with simple pleasures,”.

We still in Dublin. I, @mizliz, am sick as hell but my wonderful @offscreen_collective team took the lead and represented the magazine while I was collecting tissues around my bed struggling with the flu.

So meet, from L to R,
@madinamle studying Audiovisual Creation @univparis8
@selmacgr in Public Affairs, Cultural Policy & Management at @sciencespo and working as a freelance journalist
@meimona.s studying Technical Business at @upecofficiel

Making a magazine is challenging on so many levels and promoting it, is really demanding. Attending fairs takes energy and money but it’s always rewarding because it’s a booster to spread the message, to meet people and keep getting inspired by what other publishers do.
So yes I can say, I’m grateful to have those young and brilliant minds supporting me (especially when I’m not doing well). I always did everything by myself from picking up heavy boxes of magazines and delivering it to stockists to post on social media and everything in between…
So thank you ladies, you made life easier on this journey to Dublin (we need to talk about the weather though). For the first time, I trusted people to take care of my print baby and I’m not even stressed about it. I just let go and it feels great.
So today last day of the Tsundoku book fair at @photoirelandfst , we’ll be there around 2PM (bc some are going thrift store shopping and I’m trying to collect myself to get on my feet 😩)
So see you around
And then back to Paris
Cheers

Entre la recherche de liens avec ses origines et l'histoire du monde arabe, il y a les divas. Between the search for links with its origins and the history of the Arab world, there are divas. In the "Icon" section of Gaze N°6, @selmacgr recounts how, amid the tumult of complex History that have marked Arab countries, the music of Warda, Oum Kalthoum and Fairuz inspire us to dream of a time when their world-famous voices would breathe an air of peace.

What is an Arab diva? A woman with the power to gather generations around her voice. For @selmacgr, Warda is the one who forged closer ties with her native Algeria. "At that time, I began to question what it meant to belong to the Algerian diaspora in France [...] Immediately, this need to find my 'home' through North African culture manifested itself through music." Read our Icon section dedicated to Warda Al-Jazairia in Gaze N°6!

It's hard to navigate between different cultures when you come from a diaspora. For @selmacgr, the music of her icon, Warda Al-Jazairia, drives her fantasy of a dream Algeria. A fantasy that above all feeds her with hope, inspiration and pride, as it does for so many diasporic people who were led to believe that their culture had to be forgotten.

Issue 7 of the Semaine Newspaper boasts a double-cover, featuring two extraordinary Tastemakers who embody the essence of “terroir"-a profound connection to their roots, giving them purpose and a sense of belonging in their journeys.

Meet the first of our summer cover Tastemakers, Sarah Ben Romdane, olive oil maker extraordiannaire and founder of @worldofkaia. During the Covid crisis, Sarah found solace and inspiration in an extended trip to her home country of Tunisia, where she immersed herself in the enchanting rhythm, colours and beauty of Mahdia. Through KAÏA, Sarah has not only brought greater visibility to Tunisian olive oil but also reconnected with the essence of who she is and the community that cultivates the land.

Join us as we embark on a sensory voyage through Sarah’s fascinating life, where olive oil becomes more than just a culinary elixir. And stand by as we reveal the captivating story of our second Tastemaker, and favourite troubadour, Antonin Bartherotte.
