Deafheaven - “Hunter”. Still directing, obvi… making things is the part I love most.

Also, how many black metal bands do fully choreographed dance videos? Working with @george_lesage, @nicksteinhardt and the @deafheavenband boys has been really fucking special. Shot with single take energy and crafted into some weird form of art, it feels quite antithetical to the world of black metal.

We made it over one very scrappy day with my personal hero @janusz_kaminski and producer legend @degenerate_dad both leading the charge. We teamed up with @mamie__green and her incredible dancers Jobel, Ryley, Hope and Brenan, and the result is a visual continuation of what we did with Winona, now in a more dust bowl-esque world for the band’s latest EP, At Work in the Fields of the Bomb. Every component, down to the smallest movements from the dancers, tells a story aligned with the lyrics and with what these characters feel as Jobel’s character is attacked in this liminal space.

It was a joy to step into a different medium with so many gifted people. Our other cinematographers @photoflood_, @quinn_feldman, and @cbergquist held it down out in the sticks, and @krystallschott and @isamayaffrench brought the most incredible production design and makeup direction. On post, @shanepford and @mikolour delivered with truly perfect editorial and color. The list goes on, and none of this happens without all of them. We are incredibly proud and grateful to make art like this.

Thank you for all the trust, G, Nick and @goldtheoryartists.

🌱🏙️ What if nature wasn’t somewhere we went, but something woven into everyday city life?

Earlier this month, Ecologies in Motion brought artists, foresters, designers, students, and community members together in Detroit to explore how cities can support a more-than-human community—from people to pollinators, plants, and soil.

Set within the pocket forest at Kintsugi Village Detroit, the afternoon moved from a site-responsive dance performance by Wayne State students to a conversation connecting movement, urban forestry, farming, planning, and design.

A beautiful reminder that the way we design our cities also shapes how we relate to the living systems around us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped bring the project to life.

Performers: WSU Choreography students - Madelynn Angst, Noah Barber, D'alaya De'Tres Bridges-El, Celia Ebener, Rashaun Massey-Johnson, Jaylen Mickens, Carolyn Murphy, Meghan O'Connor

🐝Ecologies in Motion: Nature, Movement and the More-Than-Human City

What changes when nature is not something we visit, but something we live with every day?

Returning to Detroit Month of Design, we are joining Brightside Collective and partners for an evening of movement, urban nature, and more-than-human futures at Kintsugi Village Detroit.

The program opens with a site-responsive dance performance by Wayne State University students, directed by Biba Bell, followed by a conversation on how we move through, learn from, and care for living urban landscapes.

From day one, we knew this was going to be a special restaurant with design prompts like that.

Another Community Gathering in, and this community keeps showing up. 🤍

Neighbors, families and familiar faces came out to the Village this week — and we couldn’t be more grateful. 🙏 Thank you for braving the May chill,💨 exploring the space and filling it with so much warmth. 🥰 Tours, snacks, laughter, little ones running in the garden — something real is growing here, and you’re part of it.

Shoutout to @brightsidetogether and @featherstone.garden for pulling weeds mid-event 😂 they just can’t help themselves. 🤭

More is coming—stay close! Follow along and share so you never miss what’s next. 💛

🌿 At Kintsugi Village, we believe details matter — because people matter.

We’re so thankful for our partnership with Semi:Formal, a small but mighty graphic design studio with a multidisciplinary range spanning strategy & research, creative direction, identity systems, development, animation, illustration, storytelling and environmental design. You’ve likely experienced their work without even realizing it — while dining at a favorite Detroit restaurant, watching a film or wandering through a museum.

They’ve helped shape the design of our newsletter, refresh our website, create welcoming outdoor signage and develop thoughtful renderings that help us imagine what our spaces can become. Those visual renderings have guided decisions around spacing, flow and what’s ahead — allowing us to move forward with clarity and confidence.

Their creativity helps our Village feel cohesive, intentional and aligned with who we are. It’s a joy to build alongside partners who care as much as we do. 🤍
