Well, that’s one way to make a first impression 🔥

New territory for us, but we reckon we nailed this one. First 570HT, and we’re pretty happy with how this one came together 💯🤌

Dont let the price of fuel get in the way of your fishing.

Tag a mate who's more likely to catch a 20lber in a trough than in the ocean 😂🤣😅

Gidday team,

If you’re in the top of the South Island this Wednesday 21st October, come along to the @shimanofishing_nz evening at @marlboroughhuntingfishing

The evening kicks off at 5:30pm, with the latest Shimano gear on display, some great specials and Shimano gift packs for the first 30 people through the door.

It’s also a great opportunity to have a yarn with a few of the Shimano pro staff team who spend plenty of time fishing around the top of the South Island and the West Coast. We’ll be there to talk all things fishing, share a few tips and answer any questions you might have about the gear or fishing in the area.

I’m looking forward to heading along, so if you’re local, come on down, say gidday and see what’s on offer.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks to everyone who came along to my talk today at the @nzfishinghunting4x4expo. Great fun and awesome to see so many locals keen to learn more about fishing!

Hopefully everyone picked up a few tips to help improve their fishing this summer.

Good luck out there this summer. Cheers!

If there’s one knot, I reckon every angler should know, it’s the Uni knot!

It’s simple to tie, offers good knot strength when tied correctly, and is one of the most versatile knots to have in your fishing toolkit.

You can use it to tie hooks, swivels, jigs and other terminal tackle to your line, making it a great all-rounder for all sorts of fishing.

Get this one mastered and you’ll have a knot you can rely on in a whole range of fishing situations.

Check out the video for a step-by-step how-to.

If you’re in Nelson this weekend, make sure you get along to the @nzfishinghunting4x4expo at the Trafalgar Centre!

The weather’s looking great, and it’s a good opportunity to get out, check out what’s on offer and support all the local businesses taking part.

I’ve had a look around already and the layout is looking really impressive!

I’ll be presenting a Snapper Masterclass on Saturday at 1pm, talking all things snapper here in Tasman Bay and sharing a few things I’ve learnt over the years that might help you catch more snapper this summer.

If you’re local, come along and say gidday. It’d be great to see you there!

And if you don’t catch me at the masterclass, come and say gidday at the @marahaumarineservices stand if you see me there.

Summers coming, the snapper are moving into shallower water, and it’s one of my favourite times of the year to strayline for big snapper.

There’s something pretty special about straylining, but it can also be frustrating when you miss that fish you’ve been waiting for.

There’s a lot that goes into getting it right - from your hook and trace selection to how you rig your bait, the gear you use and knowing when to strike or let the fish run. And, of course, being in the right place at the right time!

I like using a two-hook rig when straylining for snapper, so in this video I show you how I tie mine using snell knots and explain why I use this setup.

Now for the debate!

When it comes to straylining for snapper, what’s your go-to hook — circle hooks or octopus/beak hooks?

There are strong opinions on both sides, so let’s hear yours! Drop a comment below and let’s see which comes out on top.

Cheers, team.
