POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Did not think i would ever sit down and write reviews for cartoons but here I am🤣 and tbf, these were absolutely worth it!

We also have some rules around screen time which i think helps with the calmness.. for eg:

- no screen time on iPads or phones. this means mum and dad dont watch videos on our phones as well.

- if we have screen time, im sitting down as well doing work on my laptop unless im cooking or cleaning. thats how i know so much about all of them 😂 but also, i think this shared experience is pretty special. plus whenever a real life experience mirrors the shows we watch, i bring them up and my bub can connect the dots and relate

- when we introduce a new show, especially the first few times, we stick to the same show for a few months. these days, since there’s a plethora of options, we just ask and put on whatever our toddler wants to watch.

Anyway, if you have a go-to calm cartoon, drop it in the comments!

It’s #bannedbooksweek and it is staggering that in a country facing severe real-world challenges from gun violence to predatory health insurance practices to 1 in 3 women getting SA’d the main policy push for some continues to be removing books from local libraries and classrooms. 🤯

Instead of addressing corporate greed or passing meaningful safety laws, self-appointed censors are prioritizing the restriction of children’s picture books, middle-grade stories, and young adult literature.
Here are a few real books that have faced challenges and removal pushes across the US:

Tango Makes Three — A picture book based on the true story of two male penguins in the Central Park Zoo who raised a chick together. It continues to be targeted over its LGBTQ+ themes.

Everywhere Babies — A board book for toddlers celebrating babies and their care, targeted simply for depicting various family structures in its background illustrations.

New Kid — A Newbery Medal-winning graphic novel about a 12-year-old Black kid navigating a prestigious, predominantly white private school, challenged under broad political bans on “critical race theory”.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower — A classic young adult novel exploring adolescence, mental health, and trauma, which regularly tops the American Library Association’s most challenged lists.

Real safety means protecting people NOT restricting access to ideas, stories and empathy. In fact, maybe we wouldn’t be living in current wacky times if people had more access to books instead of some of the other things we have too much access to.
