Old World / New World with a Galician twist. 2007 @emiliorojoribeiro drank like that scene in an action movie when the main character is getting beaten to within an inch of his life and is on his last legs, struggling to get up, but then miraculously finds the energy to clamber back to his feet and throw the winning punch. When opened it was a little top-heavy and well on its way to oxidative land but very much still has good structure and lively acid and I ended up liking it a lot. Still really cool to drink old Ribeiro like this, 10 years before Emilio’s last vintage. @analemmawines Mencía 2018 showed really well (yes, you should be aging your Mencía folks) with the crushed violet high-toned nose I expect from Ribeira Sacra, but with a deeper, riper and concentrated fruit profile on the palate. Structurally kind of a cross between light ethereal Ribeira Sacra and the grippier tannins of Bierzo, overall medium bodied and really pleasant to drink. It was really different from @limitedadditionwine’s Mencía too, so it was cool for me to see that there’s such diversity in the few Mencías being made in the US.

PART II. To all our purveyors, thank you. New York is beautiful. To the whole team past and present. I love you all and I’m in debt with you for the rest of my life. Saying thank you is not enough. Zak, Philipp, Josh, Guate, Wilson, Guido, Liberty, Ricky, Jennifer, Shimmy, Markis, Ronald, Manny, Sarai, Alan, Stefania, Maria, Camila, Juan, Erika, Lei and many others I’m forgetting I love you all. Special shoutout to Marta, the only member of the team who was here for the whole Ensenada run and even before that she was already part of Black Flamingo. You are a rockstar Marta. Bryce, you are my hermano for life and I know this is not our last dance together. Cooking is all I know and cooking is what I’m gonna keep doing. We are closing our doors with our head high and very proud of what we did. We believe we made a tiny dent in the New York food scene from our Borinquen Triangle or how Liberty calls it, our little island. Last service will be Oct 25th, come dance. ✌️ 🐟
