Sicily is a 1-2yr old lab mix that is looking for a career change. She was originally pulled to become a service dog but has a little too much intensity for that line of work. Sicily visited us in person for screening, she is confident, social, and excited to be in new places. She really enjoys fetch and tug, but does not have the hunt drive needed for search work. Sicily needs an active home and would likely excel in dog sports as she’s eager to learn.

Service Dogs are truly amazing! I never realized how much of a bond you get to have with them until Cowboy and Templeton came into my life.

My Caregiver and I were talking about how exceptional Templeton truly is this morning so I wanted to share just a few of the ways he makes my life bright!

• He helps with my physical needs
• He helps create conversation when I’m in public
• He helps me think outside of myself to take care of somebody other than me
• He and Cowboy opened up a bond that only a person with a Service Dog can understand

If you’ve ever been thinking about getting a Service Dog, I am obviously all for it! It can take a long time to get your partner, so if you’re thinking about it now I encourage you to get the ball rolling! I also recommended you to really research the companies! Thank you @servicedogsinc for the incredible training that you do and for blessing me!

When she died a part of me resigned.

Katie’s first Service Dog, Cowboy helped her more than she could’ve ever imagined.
- He helped her with physical needs
- He helped her make friends
- He helped her think outside of herself to take care of somebody other than herself
- He opened up a bond that only a person with a service dog can understand

When Cowboy passed away, Katie didn’t want another dog. It broke her heart. However, the perfect pup was waiting for her.

Katie’s mom reached out to Service Dog Inc. and they said they just happened to have the perfect dog for her. He was trained for a girl in a wheelchair who backed out at the same time Katie needed a Service Dog.

Check out some of the things Templeton helps Katie with.

She will be the first to tell you that their bond goes far beyond him helping her physical needs.

I am not sure I posted this lift that I didn't get. It was a State and National record attempt. I already held the Texas State record and set a National record with an earlier lift, and this would have tied it all together. But I love what the announcers say. First, they loved my name and repeated it a few times. But then the one announcer says, "We know he can do the weight. I would consider that a new gym PR. A new max for his Coach to work off of. When you're telling people outside of Powerlifting. ... When you talk to Susan at the gym, you're not going to tell her that it wasn't a competition lift. You can just say, 'Yeah, I benched this much.'"
That's laugh out loud funny!

I may have posted this before, but I love what the announcer says at :28 seconds into the video. "That's a National Record for Bam. Bam is killing it all day. I believe he's setting National Records all day." That's pretty kewl. PLU is a great organization and their National meet was a showcase for some unbelievable, amazing, monster numbers set by these "youngsters!"
And did you catch that I was wearing my "good luck" @servicedogsinc squat socks?

The Beginning of a Future Service Dog 💚🐾

What looks like “just touching a button” or “playing fetch” is actually the very beginning of real service dog task work.

Jilly, our 20-month-old Rough Collie SDiT, officially started learning:
✨ Touch
✨ Retrieval

These foundational skills will eventually help her:
✔️ Push handicap buttons
✔️ Open cabinets & doors
✔️ Retrieve dropped items
✔️ Assist her future handler with mobility support
✔️ Support PTSD & anxiety mitigation tasks

Every finished service dog starts here — with repetition, engagement, confidence building, and clear communication.

For touch work, we start by rewarding nose targets to the hand before transferring the behavior to objects and buttons.
For retrieval, we begin with structured fetch foundations:
🐾 “Get It”
🐾 “Bring It”
🐾 “Give”

Tiny steps now create reliable, life-changing behaviors later. And honestly… Jilly is LOVING learning how to interact with the world with purpose. 🥹💚

Watching a dog begin to understand they can help their person is one of the coolest parts of service dog training.
