We’re experiencing the Monday blues after the highs of our art-world football tournament yesterday! 🫶

Many many thanks to all our players, supporters and sponsors. 🫡

We had so much fun and there was so much drama too. With a last minute goal and a nail biting penalty shootout that was decided by a precise top bins finish by the one and only @penacharu! ⭐️

Congrats to NFT FC for successfully defending their JHB trophy. Well done to team captain @nqabashakesmbolekwana for leading his troops to victory once again. 🏆

Too many legends to tag in the most incredible @franadilla kit! 🔥

Pre-match IV

We distributed disposable cameras during Exhibition Match's friendly football tournament played on the last day of the @fnbartjoburg . These cameras served as participatory tools, aimed at capturing and preserving shared experiences, while fostering a process of collective meaning-making. These images document moments on and off the field, and promote a sense of togetherness and a spirit of collaboration.

Following on from last year’s People’s Archive (a place for art-world players to share their memories about football) we add the following contribution by @ionlyweartanpantsinoliberace

“My father’s disposition was always cold and abrasive and it always affected how we relate to each other. He was a menace, but football always served as an entry point towards levelling that playing field. He’d always chop about Jomo Sono’s dribbling prowess, why Kaizer Motaung was a pantomime villain and the art of Arsene Wenger’s give-and-go. A few years before he passed he got me a Pirates jersey which was a reissue of the vintage jerseys with insignia he’d rave about from his heydays, the 70’s and 80’s. As someone born in Orlando it was only when I got this jersey, that I realised the fanfare around the football clubs we inherit serve as a knowledge system in their own right, a recipe to pass down to the babies. What’s hilarious is that I’ve worn the hell out of this shirt on the pitch and in my day to day life and it’s still the only shirt that gets compliments from old heads. I’m not from the 70’s but I’ll always be a sea robber.”
