Colorful scenes from our 2026 board retreat in Mexico City 🇲🇽

From gallery tours with @thebiennial and exploring Xochimilco's chinampas with @culinarybackstreetscdmx to Arts Week pop-ups and Kip's culinary hop, we had such a great weekend celebrating another year of EatDenver and gaining momentum (heavily fueled by street tacos) for the year ahead.

Deeply grateful to our volunteer board of directors for their dedicated work in driving our mission and supporting global R&D!

When some folks think of Xochimilco waterways just outside of CDMX, they picture the bright colored boats, party barges & the vibrant markets... but did you know the floating farmlands between their waterways source a lot of leafy greens, herbal medicines & other produce for the region too?

For generations, these man-made lands have not only been protected but rebuilt by the families who work on the very land they built a thousand years ago. Fortified by willow tree roots, packed with mud and seed, these islands thrive thanks to a partnership between the community & local organizations that love their purpose & products.

The @eat_denver fam teamed up with @culinarybackstreetscdmx & @hagamos_composta to tour the 1000 year old community's back canals and learn of their agricultural history. "An oasis of green unlike any other in the world. It is the last part of the city that preserves the systems of canals and farms first built by the ancient Toltecs, when the area was on the edge of a long-gone lake".

It was a wonderful opportunity to eat with friends while learning more about the local families dedication to sustainable farming, the history of the Central Mexican food chain & how "farm to table" operates (and tastes) in Mexico City.

Thoroughly recommend going the less beaten path (and canals) and explore the urban eco-reserves of Xochimilco with @patosauruz if you're ever in Mexico City.

A great week of conversation, connection, and community-building ✨

Thank you to the Denver District 9 constituents who attended our City Council Meet & Greet with @darrellbwatson and the hospitality of our hosting venue, @point_easy_denver.

Thank you, also, to the team at @philforcolorado for coordinating an opportunity to chat with hospitality professionals about being an ambassador for our industry across the state, @brandybschultz and @wesleyschultz for hosting the evening, and @bluepanpizza for the nourishment.

We're excited to continue these conversations and work with our state and local legislators to advocate for the survival and long-term success of our independent food and beverage operators, their employees, and the communities they support.
