Today, our Himalayan pilgrimage brought us through the heart of the recent disaster in Nepal’s Rasuwa region, traveling from Kakani toward Thulo Syabru with our friends and collaborators from the Karuna Project.

After crossing the river, we entered an area devastated by floods and landslides. School buses lay destroyed, buildings were buried in mud, and the scale of the suffering was overwhelming. We gathered in a circle to chant Om Mani Padme Hum, the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, offering prayers for those who lost their lives, their families, and everyone affected.

As we climbed higher into the Himalayas, we stopped at an overlook with views toward Tibet and Nepal’s majestic Langtang Lirung. Below us, the destruction remained visible across the valley. We continued past Buddhist stupas toward Thulo Syabru, where an unexpected encounter awaited us.

We arrived at the local Tibetan Buddhist monastery just in time for a tsok puja. The community explained that the offerings and prayers were intended to bring nourishment and peace to those who had died unexpectedly, with their lives and aspirations unfulfilled.

Having just witnessed the devastation and prayed for the departed, arriving at this ceremony felt profoundly meaningful. In the Buddhist understanding, compassion reaches beyond the visible world, embracing those who have died and those who remain, all interconnected through the fragile conditions of life.

Our pilgrimage continues through Langtang, carrying our community’s prayers and our commitment to supporting disaster-affected families in Nepal through Paititi Institute’s relief initiative in collaboration with the Karuna Project.

May those who have departed find peace, and may the living receive the support and strength they need to rebuild.

Om Mani Padme Hum 🙏

🙏 NEPAL EMERGENCY RELIEF ** 60% OF OUR GOAL REACHED **

We are deeply grateful to share this message directly from Lama Karma Tsultrim in Nepal, together with images from the communities and monastery members who are helping bring food and essential supplies to families affected by the recent disaster.

Through the generosity of our extended Paititi community, we have now reached 60% of our $10,800 goal.

To give a sense of how far this support can reach: based on current relief efforts in Nepal, approximately $100 can provide essential food for one family for about two months. What may seem like a relatively small contribution from afar can become something very immediate on the ground: rice, lentils, oil and other necessities reaching a family during a time of profound uncertainty.

We are working directly with Lama Karma Tsultrim and the Manang Society Monastery. As the funds are transferred and the next supplies are purchased and transported into the disaster-affected areas, we will continue documenting the process and sharing it with everyone who has made this effort possible.

108 is a sacred number across the Himalayan traditions, and our goal of $10,800 carries that prayer with it. May what we gather together become practical compassion in the hands of those who need it.

Every contribution matters. Every sharing of this appeal helps.

All donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. as permitted by law.

With the floods and ongoing disasters in Nepal, a lot of people have written to ask about the communities affected and how they can help. If you were one of them, thank you.

Nepal is close to our hearts. We’ve traveled there on many expeditions, our coffee is grown in Nuwakot, and we're fortunate to work with partners across the country.

There are two ways to help. One meets the immediate need. One supports Nepal's long-term success. Both matter.

For the immediate need: give to the Nepal Flood Recovery Fund.

Through the Mountain Preservation Foundation, we founded a separate philanthropic fund to support relief and rebuilding through trusted partners on the ground.

https://mountainpreservation.org/nepal

For the long term: support farming families and local commerce through Everest Coffee and Guardian memberships. Our coffee is grown at Nuwa Estate by local farming families. Purchasing Everest Coffee is not disaster relief. It supports livelihoods, creates economic opportunity, and builds the kind of local economy that matters long after the recovery ends.

https://planet5media.com/coffee

Our Guardian memberships do the same thing year round, supporting our partners in these communities while giving you exclusive benefits on coffee, art, and expeditions.

http://planet5media.com/guardians

Our commitment is to the urgent needs the current situation is creating, and to Nepal's long-term success.

Give to the recovery. Drink the coffee. Do both. And if you know someone who would want to help, please send this their way.

The Adventure Continues… ✨

I was honored when Claudia Wells invited me to be her photographer for her guest appearance at The Vibe Room! Capturing her and the other innovators at this event was a unique experience, and it speaks to what One Life L’Atelier is all about. I’m deeply thankful for the experience.

The Vibe Room brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who all share the same passion for living life to the fullest. 🥂 The speakers shared amazing stories, and everyone, just like me, was inspired.

What I love most in life is supporting kind people through photography and videography, and it was a joy to support Claudia over the past couple of days! 📸🎥

EMERGENCY RELIEF FOR FAMILIES IN RASUWA, NEPAL

Dear friends, Paititi Institute has launched an emergency fundraising campaign for communities in the Rasuwa region of Nepal most affected by the recent disaster.

We are coordinating directly with Lama Karma Tsultrim Sangpo and the Manang Society Monastery through long-standing relationships within our Kagyu lineage. Lama Karma served as a close assistant to the late Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, whose guidance helped inspire the establishment of Paititi Institute in 2010.

Through this trusted local network, we are directing support toward the elders, women, children, and families facing the greatest hardship. Donations will help purchase and distribute essential supplies identified by the communities, including food, blankets, cooking equipment, emergency solar power, and other immediate necessities.

Every contribution can provide practical assistance, and sharing this campaign will help it reach people who may be able to participate.

🙏 The donation link is available in our bio.

👁️All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law in the US under 501c3 non profit status

We will continue sharing updates as supplies are purchased and distributed.

With much love and gratitude,
Roman Hanis

¿Allinllachu, Western? When we’re not in Gunnison, you might find some of us trekking through Peru’s Sacred Valley! Read about the experience below ⬇️

This August, during the fall pre-session, students from @environmentwestern and @western.roe programs embarked on a 10-day expedition through Peru, led by @karunaexpeditions founder Seth Quigg and Western Environment and Sustainability Director Nate Gore. The experience was made possible through @cli_wcu.

From connecting with Quechua communities in the high-mountain village of Willoq to trekking the legendary Classic Inca Trail, students immersed themselves in Peruvian culture while exploring sustainability, history, and adventure in one of the world’s most incredible landscapes.

For Quigg, the value of the journey goes far beyond the places we visit: “Traveling opens doors into different realities and can change how people view the world and themselves in it.”

Gore adds: “Educators in the field have the extraordinary privilege of watching a future generation of leaders grow into their own during these expeditions. We get to witness students navigate uncertainty, challenge their assumptions, discover their capabilities, and ultimately return home transformed—not simply by the places they have visited, but by the people they have become along the way.”

¡Sulpayki, Pachamama! 🇵🇪

Kenya does not hand you a single landscape. In January 2027, Dirk Collins and his expedition crew move through all of it. Rhinos on land three generations of one family have kept. The summit of Africa's second mountain, with crater lakes held between cliff walls at altitude. Camel caravans crossing desert the maps mostly leave blank. Then helicopters over volcano country to the jade lake where mankind began, flamingos lifting off it by the thousand.

Nights end under acacia with the light going gold and no itinerary telling you when to leave the table.

This is not a tour. It is professional access, built by people who have spent thirty years earning it, in country that has not been arranged for visitors.

By invitation. Limited guests. Guardians first.
