As it is #womenshistorymonth it would be remiss of me not to continue highlighting women who are apart of the book development process.

As someone who advocates for judging a book by its cover, I have to give credit where credit is due for the women who create the covers we know and love. From in-house to freelance, these women create the imagery of books we hold close and, from me, they shall always recieve their flowers.

As I've said before, I believe the book cover is an art (a somewhat dying one) that is as meaningful as what is inside the book as, on its first glance, it captures the story, holds your attention and draws you in.

So, do you see any favorites? Any other illustrators and designers that you love?

“Ayesha at Last” by @uzmajalaluddin and published by @penguinrandomhouse is a delightful #romance novel that has widely been described as a #Muslim Pride and Prejudice. I thought it was super adorable, especially if you’re looking for a light read. The cover is illustrated by @sevenbluetrees!

ON THE COVER// ALL HANDS DOWN

I believe hands are the most beautiful parts of a human body. The wisdom it carries in aging, truthful expressions in gestures, a guide for identification given by the marks; a unique story of a life lived. For some, a metaphor for romance, touch as a language of love, a sense of familiarity and belonging. Others, an answer to a mystery, a memory of an uninvited past.

Holding hands is a feeling, more than an act of love. And despite the romanticism of it, hands can occasionally be cruel. Yet, I choose to only remember the softness in it. I love sketching hands, illustrating, painting, drawing. I wish I could drive all my projects exploring the beauty in this creativity and connection. So when I see this collection of covers from romance to thrillers, I see so many different, interpretive themes, those hands would introduce.

Some gorgeous bookmarks & postcards for The Muse of Maiden Lane and The Lily of Ludgate Hill, designed by the amazingly talented Farjana Yasmin @sevenbluetrees! 😍 ❤️🐴

I'm absolutely in love with the starry atmosphere for the Muse ones, with Teddy in his Victorian wheelchair and Stella looking luminous! 💜✨

And look at Hart's pants in the Lily ones! (Also, zoom in on Eris the cat's face. She's so hilariously peeved 😹)

Farjana previously designed postcards and bookmarks for The Siren of Sussex and The Belle of Belgrave Square. Which means I now I have a complete set of all four heroines and their heroes (and their horses!). 🥰

My Belles of London series features a daring group of Victorian era equestriennes who ride boldly across 1860s London to find independence and love. All four books are out now from Berkley/Penguin Random House! 🐎

ETA: These aren't available for purchase, but I will be mailing them out to readers gratis. I'll have a google doc sign-up form in late July/early August. I'll post it when it goes live!
