20 MM AP: Rob

Today, I met Rob — the person behind @severedwing_llc , a retail shop built around local brands, local artists, mid-century modern pieces, records, and whatever else catches his eye.

As Rob put it, @severedwing_llc is “a little bit of what’s going on.”

The shop feels like a collection of things he likes — a mix of art, objects, music, brands, and small discoveries that come together into something very Asbury.

Rob has been in Asbury for almost nine years and was working in town before opening the shop. For him, Asbury was a great location then and still is now — a place that felt up-and-coming, creative, and worth being part of.

“I’m happy to be here.”

His customers are a little bit of everything. Rob has the store set up to welcome almost every age, with people coming through from their 20s to their 70s. That range feels like the point: a shop that isn’t built for just one type of person, but for anyone curious enough to walk in.

For the future, Rob wants to keep finding cool local brands, local artists, knickknacks, records, and intriguing things. Keep the merchandise flowing. Keep the music going. Keep it light and fun.

That’s what 20 MM AP is about — the people building spaces full of taste, music, local work, and the kind of strange little finds that make Asbury feel alive.

20 MM AP: Darren

Today, I met Darren Watkins — someone who works for the @cityofasburyparknj and helps keep the place moving day to day.

Darren doesn’t have social media, which honestly fits the vibe. He’s not here to post about Asbury. He’s here living it.

He works as a city laborer, helping keep houses cleaned up, streets cleaned up, and doing his best to take care of the town. Like any job, he says it has good days and bad days, but overall, Asbury has been good to him.

When I asked what keeps him here, Darren talked about Asbury as home — not just because of the beach, but because of the energy, the air, the smell, the people, and the feeling that everything here is familiar.

“I just always felt like Asbury was home.”

And when I asked how we keep that feeling alive, he brought it back to people coming together. Things change. Rules change. Different parts of the city change. But the thing that matters most is people showing up for each other and spreading something positive.

That’s what 20 MM AP is about — the people who work here, live here, know the town by feel, and help keep Asbury home in ways most people never see.
