Teddy P’s Moon Shi features a title track that’s “an almost eight-minute dissertation on what this group is capable of; it’s a journey through fusion, cool jazz and many other elements that are pulled together with a movie score-like through line.” The group also toys with the juxtaposition of a lush, thick orchestration and single horn solos to highlight the distance between the two.

I’m so grateful to have performed at the @theboilerroomogden many times. This venue has been amazing to local artists and I am devastated to see it go.

Thank you @lauraalicephotography for these awesome photos.

3 days before recording all of Moon Shi on the flats I was notified that a 4 year long relationship I was in was permanently done. As you can imagine that’s pretty intense, and now I associate this album with the horrors of that time period, but more importantly I associate it with my friends and the people I love, because at the end of the day it’s about people and moving forward even when life is difficult and confusing.

The album title “Moon Shi” is in reference to the fact that Moon was “interfering with everyone’s relationships” at the time of recording which sounds silly, but the feeling of helplessness was very real. Now it’s a year later and today is a total lunar eclipse blood moon. I have nothing to say to the moon other than thank you.

Someone wrote a long Reddit post about this line and you should go read it.
(I work for Reddit so I must shamelessly plug)

Y’all ever rehearse your original big band jazz fusion whatever the fu original compositions on the salt flats? Didn’t think so. Moon Shi, the newest Teddy P album, recorded entirely on the Bonneville Salt Flats, comes out this Friday wherever you listen to music.
