This took me awhile to post this experience. About two months ago, on August 3, we celebrated the grand opening of Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen NYC. Looking back, it still feels surreal.

A year ago, Carol approached me about helping with a pop-up dinner in New York City. Less than a year later, we were planning and celebrating Ngon’s grand opening in Manhattan’s East Village. That’s the kind of full-circle moment you can’t script.

Because of Carol’s trust in Lan Rose PR and our partnership over the years, this opening also marked a milestone for our agency. While expanding to New York was always a dream, it wasn’t exactly on my 2026 plans. Yet there we were. ❤️

Carol intentionally chose August 3 for the celebration because it marks the day she first arrived in America 26 years ago, making the occasion even more meaningful.

I’ve visited New York countless times for work and for fun, but this trip felt different. Instead of passing through, I found myself slowing down and paying attention to the rhythm, character, and energy of the city. I wasn’t just visiting. I was building relationships, making connections, and learning how to move within a city that has always been part of my story.

I was born in nearby Jersey City, and when my family first arrived in America in 1981, New York was where they began building their entrepreneurial roots. Before I left for the trip, my dad reminded me to visit 42nd Street because that’s where he used to sell watches. Walking those streets, I found myself thinking about the sacrifices, dreams, and determination that brought my family here.

In many ways, the city felt familiar.
Just like Ngon’s food.

Thank you to Carol and the entire Ngon team, Thanin Viriyaki, DJ Demonslayer, our special guests, and everyone who filled the restaurant with so much energy throughout opening weekend.

And a special thank you to Emily, who spent the summer interning with Lan Rose PR and was part of this unforgettable chapter. You jumped right into a busy season and helped make so much happen. 💛

This weekend was about so much more than a restaurant opening. It was about trust, growth, community, and honoring the journeys that brought us here.💕

Last weekend, I had the joy of helping bring Tyler’s proposal to Brooke to life at Crown Block with romantic florals, glowing candlelight, and all the details that set the stage for the big question. 🌸🕯️

A huge shoutout to my friend Glenda Miller, the mastermind behind the scenes who coordinated the day and brought us all together. I’m so grateful she referred Vivian James Events and the incredibly talented @severus_snapshot ,Thanin, who photographed the evening and captured it beautifully. 📸

From the proposal itself to the surprise engagement party waiting afterward with family and friends, it was an incredible night!

And yes—the video clips are straight from my cell phone, so don’t judge the quality! 😂 I couldn’t resist capturing the sweet words and reactions as they happened. Be sure to watch until the end for some of Thanin’s gorgeous professional photos!

Walking the red carpet, but the real highlight was the people on it with me.

I gave my friend Shin-Wen about TWO hours’ notice and, of course, she showed up absolutely stellar. That’s friendship.

Such a special afternoon celebrating the Dallas Asian Film Festival, surrounded by incredible Asian filmmakers, storytellers and friends who are putting our stories on screen and making an impact in the world.

And getting to watch the debut of Year of the Cat, a documentary by Tony Nguyen, followed by a Q&A led by Tammy Lee Nguyen, made the preview even more meaningful.

There’s something pretty incredible about looking around a room and realizing: these are my friends and look at what they’re doing.

So proud. So inspired. And very grateful for the people who show up. ❤️
