The imagination is an essential tool of the mind’ Ursula K. Le Guin

The next exhibition at @terrace_gallery ‘There is Room in the Bag of Stars’ is inspired by the thought provoking words of American author Ursula K. Le Guin.
In 2002 she gave a talk titled ‘The Operating Instructions’- in it she argues for the importance of using and feeding imagination. She made a clear case for art as essential to hope- her focus was on literature and writing but is equally appropriate to painting.

As she put it
‘In America the imagination is generally looked on as something that might be useful when the TV is out of order...Literacy is so you can read the operating instructions’
‘I think the imagination is the single most useful tool mankind possesses. It beats the opposable thumb. I can imagine living without my thumbs, but not without my imagination.’

Rising to this challenge, The Pearls are delighted to present a curated selection of 20 paintings which speak directly to her point. Come and spend time in this room full of paintings which hum and throb and bicker. It promises to surprise and delight the diligent viewer.

At the weekend I attended the PV of Silent Disco 2026. A group exhibition on display in Graham Crowley's studio in sunny Suffolk. It was a real treat hanging out (in the exhibition space / crowded workshop / beautiful garden) meeting some of the participating artists and catching up with friends. Thank you Graham and Sally Crowley for a wonderful day.

My collage 'Docile Dogs' is on display (in good company, placed alongside @alexprice.studio painting titled 'Heap').

I didn't take many photos but here are a few. For a walkthrough of the exhibition here's a link.
