I don't typically share this side of me, but it's part of my journey, and I figured it's time I shared a little more about my "why" when it comes to running and just life in general 🫶🏾

Just three years ago, I was lying in a hospital bed praying to God to heal me. I remember telling Him that if I could just get my health and my body back, I would never take the ability to move it for granted again.

I was slowly dying from fibroids.

And yes, fibroids are noncancerous tumors, but the impact they can have on your body can be life-threatening. At one point, I had lost so much blood that I was told to skip calling my OB-GYN and go straight to the ER because I was at risk of going into cardiac arrest.

That same week, I came across another Black woman's story on IG. Exact same health journey but unfortunately, she went into cardiac arrest and didn't survive.

That stayed with me.

After two life-changing surgeries, I knew my outlook on life would never be the same. But what I didn't fully understand at the time was that my bounce back wasn't going to be quick.

It took me nearly a full year to get my body AND my mind back. I struggled to walk up and down stairs, stand for short periods of time, and even drive. My quality of life looked completely different, and there were some really difficult days.

But I believed there was a blessing waiting for me on the other side.

And here I am, three years later, collecting *another* medal after completing the Long Beach Half Marathon yesterday ✅🏅

So when people ask me why I keep doing this "marathon stuff," this is my why.

Because I remember when I couldn't.

Because I prayed for the body I'm able to move today.

Because every mile means something different when you know what it feels like to have your ability to move taken away from you.

With that, I have no plans of stopping soon. We're just getting started...

@longbeachmarathon, I'll see you in 2027 😉
