@sf_japantown theirs so many places to eat so I try @sfonthebridge coming in I saw a good selection of beer and sake if you need help they have some recommendations and for food I got shrimp pop and curry everything was delicious with the drink

A Studio Ghibli inspired restaurant in San Francisco!?

@sfonthebridge has been in SF's Japantown for over 30 years. Started by Chef Mitsuhiro Nakamura, he brought yoshoku fusion style cooking to the Bay Area, serving some unique mentaiko pasta and cutlets.

And yes, they play Studio Ghibli films all day long!

Little did you know that the best shochu bar in the city is indeed the quirky restaurant @sfonthebridge, a legacy business in historic Japantown where you can dine on Japanese-American cuisine while watching classic anime films, usually Ghibli-centric.

Chef and owner Mitsu Nakamura loves his liquids and knows his stuff! We said we wanted shochu and he led us down a path of aged mugi (barley) shochu from both Kagoshima and Oita Prefectures. He even introduced us to the concept of hojicha-wari, adding warm roasted green tea to shochu itself.

鬼炎(おにび)、アジフライ、うどん。

桃のペールエールは、やさしい甘さで口当たりも柔らかく、ひと口目から心が落ち着く味わい。
このビールを造った人の、丁寧な仕事と想いが伝わってきます。

出汁の効いたスープと野菜は、キリッとした輪郭がありながらも、体にすっと染み込むような温かさ。
飲み進めるほどに、安心感が広がっていきました。

うどんは弾力があり、食べていて心地よく、海老天のサクッとした食感が一杯に表情を与えてくれます。

アジフライはカツソースのコクでどこか懐かしく温かな味わい。
そこにレモンをひと絞りすると、一気に爽やかさが加わり、後味がきれいに引き締まります。

それぞれが異なる魅力を持ちながら、ひとつの食事として静かにまとまり、心まで温めてくれる時間でした。
やさしく、バランスが良く、今の自分にちょうどよい一食。

今年最後の一食。

Onibi, aji fry, and udon.

The peach ale was gently sweet and soft, calming from the first sip.
It felt like the person who made the beer poured their heart and mind into their craft.

The soup and vegetables brought warmth and clarity, sharp at the edges yet deeply comforting as they settled in.

The udon was springy and soothing, while the ebi tempura added a crisp, satisfying crunch that brought the bowl to life.

The aji fry, rich with katsu sauce, felt deeply warming and familiar, then lifted by a bright squeeze of lemon that refreshed the entire experience.

Each element carried its own feeling, but together they formed a complete, warming moment.
Comforting, balanced, and exactly what I needed.

This is my last meal of the year.
Happy new year.
