Honor the Journey…

So let’s reflect and take a stroll down memory lane.

Slide 1 - 2012, my newbie year on @kabamodern and my first time hitting the Body Rock stage. I was a first year in college at UCI at this time. Priorities were different. Dance was everything. I remember the hell week and seeing the lights go out at Crawford just to go grab breakfast at Mesa Commons and make my way to my first lecture of the day and repeat. Ran on no sleep, Jack in the Box, Vons rotisserie chicken, and whatever we could afford.

Slide 2 - 2013, I returned to the Body Rock stage, but unexpectedly joined one of my dream teams @sgbmsd and the Body Rock stage became my home stage. I grew the most as a dancer at this point learning from the SD dance community and gained more opportunities to join projects and even got casted into Disney. I still remember my first rehearsal with this crew at StudioFX and finding out Body Rock would be my debut performance with them while also starting my nursing program. This is also when I first met Anna and she welcomed me to Fam Royale with open arms.

Slide 3 - 2017, to celebrate Body Rock Homecoming, I hit the stage again with my roots and got down with 25 generations of Kaba with @kmlegacy . Dance had become a side hustle. I would somehow balance rehearsals while dancing at Disney and being a nurse in the Burn ICU. Priorities started to shift. I was building my career while also building my relationship with my now wife @jojo91_ .

Slide 4 - Present, I am making my return to the @bustagroovesd stage this weekend after almost 10 years later with @reclaimandrise.co . It is crazy to be in full on rehearsal mode again and getting down with old friends, new friends, and dancers I have looked up to. Dance is now a hobby and a way to feel free, but also stay in shape because we older now. We are all now at a different stage in our lives with varying careers, but dance stills ties us all together.

Slide 5+ - Bonus content from different @bustagroovesd

Thank you Anna for creating this stage and bringing us together. This one is for you. ❤️🕊️

As a local sacrament dancer dance shows or competitions had little existence. We had to travel as far as SoCal and as close as the Bay Area to perform or compete in shows where we could display our talents.

But as we did this I noticed that we never really had much “love” from the audience, especially in comparison to the local crews.

I sat and thought about how it was so rare that our close friends and families would be able to see us perform, live? To see all the hard work, blood sweat, tears and growth. All the endless rehearsals. Coming home exhausted after a “hell week” missing time with our loved ones because we decided to sacrifice for something we were so passionate about.

Thus public display was born, It was our opportunity to showcase and share our talents with our local community, Without the weight and expectations of a competition. To just hit the stage, in our home town, and leave it on the floor.

I had just started @xposeddanceco the year prior and who would have thunk that a no name local group of gals who “just wanted to have fun “ could pull this off.

What once was a simple idea, dreamed up in a fanciful clueless thought became a loved and adored community experience! This may have been my idea but was the work of so many others!

The dancers of @xposeddanceco and @hijinxdance put in so much time, effort and pride to make sure that this shared vision was a success. A whopping 11 years consecutively is impressive to me, and I think back now and say “wow, we did that!”

Thank you dancers, guests, Sacramento, the bay and SoCal EVERYONE who helped make the show the success that it was.

So 2027, will be 20 years…..LETS CELEBRATE 🎉 🥳🎊🍾

See you next year ;)

You tryin to perform @ public display 12!?

The representation and generations in this room was wild last night. From the Bay, to LA/OC, to SD.

Thankful to have been part of the SD dance community with @sgbmsd during my dance journey, and crazy to experience this choreography in the same space as my @kmkollective days.
